Letter from Senator Mike Fasano re U.S. Highway 19 Resurfacing

Senator Milke Fasano has written the attached letter to let residents of West Pasco know that the Florida Department of Transportation has announced the timeline for the resurfacing of U.S. Highway 19.  The project will commence later in October and will eventually encompass U.S. Highway 19 from the Pinellas/ Pasco County Line to the Pasco/ Hernando County line.

'd like to ask Mike Fasano if Rt. 19, the main route through Pasco County will look anywhere near as nice as Little Rd. One feels that they are in a whole different area, a much nicer and more affluent area, when one drives Little Rd. Driving and living off 19 for 12 years now, I pay waterfront taxes, and I feel like I live in the land of dregs. Is it just road re-surfacing and widening or will we be able to have a little pride in the beautification of the area. How about the Hookers and Homeless?? Don't see them on Little Rd. Either. Where is our Penny for Pasco going? Only around Little Rd.???

Thank you for your comment, Ms. Farrell. Since you have been in this area for sometime now you must remember that Little Road, before it was widened, was much more rural and residential in nature. It has been a very long time since U.S. 19 was as undeveloped as Little was (and still is in parts).

Senator Fasano has been instrumental in securing the funding for the continuous right-turn-lanes, the street lights north of SR 52 and the overall road-widening project. Resurfacing is the latest step in helping make U.S. 19 not only safer to drive on but more pleasing to look at.

The county has done good work helping to make 19 nicer too (the limit on sign heights come to mind, for example). The overall beautification of 19 will take time. Considering the growth in population I think we can agree that it looks far better now than it did 10 years ago.

I would also like to ask Mr. Fasano, or perhaps the FHP about rules/laws regarding the "continuous right turn lane", as I feel it is causing a Safety Hazard~! Well, not the lane itself, but the people who get into it about a half mile before their intended turn and race by all the other drivers. When someone else wants to get into that lane *closer* to the intersection or business, they take a chance of being run into or they can't get into the right lane due to all those who now fill that lane.
If there are laws about this, apparently nobody knows about them.
