17-Year-Old Fights Deputies, Gets Arrested

Julian Hayes challenged a deputy to a fight. Once he was in custody, he said he had "smoked 'spice" and had also taken "Triple C's" and drank tequila..

A teenager was arrested Thursday after he fought with deputies in a Trinity subdivision.

The off-duty Pinellas deputy was in a patrol car when 17-year-old Julian Hayes started speaking to him through the passenger side window, according to a Pasco County Sheriff’s Office arrest report. Hayes leaned into the car and told the officer “fight me” and said an obscenity.

The deputy got out of the car to try and remove the teen from the vehicle, and Hayes spun around and tried to strike him, according to the report. The two began fighting and rolling around on the ground until the deputy was able to handcuff the teen.

After he was arrested and put in the back of the car, assisting deputies saw Hayes spitting and yelling. When told to stop, he split blood on deputies according to the report.

They took Hayes out of the vehicle because he was trying to get the handcuffs in front of him by moving them under his legs. Hayes began fighting with deputies again. He kicked, yelled and spit at them, the report said. Deputies were ale to get his hands behind him but he appeared to dislocate his arms and got them in front of him.

That happened twice, according to the report.

He continued to resist the deputies. They used pepper spray on him, but it had no effect, according to the report. They fired Tasers at him, but “he failed to respond,” according to the report.  So one deputy told the others to get away from Hayes and fired a Taser at the teen's back as the teen rolled on the ground to get up.

The report says the teen kicked deputies during the struggle and struck them with his head. He also kicked out the patrol car's rear window.

The teen was taken to the Medical Center of Trinity. On the way, he told deputies had “smoked ‘spice” according to the report, and also taken “Triple C’s” as well as drank tequila.

The incident is going to be investigated by the Pasco Pinellas State Attorney’s Office.

Hayes was charged with aggravated assault and battery on a law enforcement officer.
