Assisted Living Facility Employee Arrested in Elderly Exploitation Case
Pasco deputies say the woman stole more than $13,000 from an 89-year-old woman.
The former assistant director of Sunshine State Christian Home in Holiday was arrested Dec. 8 on exploitation of the elderly charges.
According to a Pasco County complaint affidavit, Amna Ahmovic, 35, defrauded an 89-year-old resident of the home out of more than $13,000 between Jan. 30, 2009, and Feb. 14, 2011.
Ahmovic, the affidavit said, cashed checks made out to herself, withdrew funds and paid personal bills using the victim’s account.
The victim was diagnosed with dementia prior to her admission at the 5250 Whipporwill Drive assisted living facility, the complaint report said.
Ahmovic turned herself in to the Land O’ Lakes Jail Dec. 8. She was charged with exploitation of the elderly and was later released on $5,000 bond.
Ahmovic of 7255 Nova Scotia Drive in Port Richey was also arrested in February for fraudulent use of a credit card and exploitation of the elderly. She no longer works at the assisted living facility. She is listed as unemployed on the complaint affidavit.
