New Port Richey Patch hosted a town-hall style forum on Wednesday to give residents a chance to ask the seven city council candidates questions on the important issues.
If you missed the event while it was happening, we've got the full video of all candidates' responses and questions from the community.
All seven city council candidates attended the event and answered questions on topics ranging from public safety to economic development plans.
We’d like to thank the City of New Port Richey for helping us with the forum by offering us a venue. We’d also like to thank the Greater New Port Richey Main Street organization and New Port Richey Parks and Recreation Department for promoting this event.
A huge thanks also goes out to Pasco historian Jeff Cannon, who moderated the forum on behalf of Patch.
The elections are being held April 9. There are two open seats.
The candidates present at the forum were:
- Bob Langford
- Michael J. Malterer
- Ginny Miller
- Rose Mohr
- Jeffery Starkey
- Jonathan Tietz
- Chopper Davis
Check back with Patch for continuing coverage of the city elections.
Note: Due to technical limitations, part one of the forum is available in our UStream widget, and part two is attached as a video.

It was a most enjoyable event. Nobody disqualified themselves by saying something REALLY stupid. On the other hand, there were no "home run" responses either.
In my opinion, all of the candidates are credible and we got a good look at some of the different viewpoints that each candidate would bring to the council. Hearing those views last night, it will be a little easier for me to narrow my picks down a bit, but it is still going to be hard to pick just two when I go to vote.

Despite of using my 500 Watts speakers and my hearing aid full volume, I could not hear the questions and answers by the pretenders council persons applying for the job, I was just sick and tired asking to my mother in law ?what are they saying?

I just wanted to take a minute to thank The Patch for putting this Forum together. I also want to thank everyone who attended along with everyone who watched the Forum on-line or on t.v. It is great to see seven individuals competing for the two open seats. New Port Richey residents are ready for change and they deserve it. The absentee ballots alone have accounted for almost half of the total votes of the last election. We as residents have to come together and take pride in our city if we are going to make changes to improve our community. I wish all of the other candidates the best of luck. All seven of us care about New Port Richey and its future. Even if you decide not to vote for me, please get out and vote on April 9th!!!!! Jeff Starkey, Candidate for City Council

For one thing,This town hall forum with the assistance of few felines rather than citizens from all walks of life and districts, it was more or less like a "Cosa Nostra meeting' in order to elect two more consiglieris to assist the city administration divided according to their personal interest and control, that almost nobody could hear their deliberations, "Strict silence is the Code", Shsssssssssssss

Ok Alex, I do not have a flash plug in. I have Mac OS X 10.4.11 and whenever I try to down load the Flash, I receive a message that my Safari (older version) will not support it. But, thanks for letting me know why it isn't showing up on my computer. I'll have to try to catch it on Bright House Channel 615, but they do not list a specific show, just all government and one cannot efficiently find out what is showing. Unless maybe there is a directory on the Bright house channel that I am not familiar with. Nancy

I recommend downloading the free Google Chrome or Firefox browsers since they undoubtedly support it.
