Learn How to Spot, Solve Problems on State Waterways

The class by the Florida Paddling Trails Association will be taught at Werner-Boyce Salt Springs State Park.

Canoeists and kayakers can learn how to spot problems with wildlife and the environment while on area waters in a course being taught by the Florida Paddling Trails Association.

Those attending will be able to recognize trouble and even solve small problems while knowing how to report larger troubles.

The course, called the “Paddler’s Environmental Toolkit Training” will be taught during a 3 ½ hour session on Saturday, Dec. 10 at Werner-Boyce Salt Springs State Park from 8:30 a.m. to noon.

You need to register in advance by going to the calendar on the association web site.

After a lunch break, you can go on a three-hour paddle where you can reinforce what's been learned. The minimum class size is 10.

Among the topics covered will be: the state’s ecology, recognizing native, exotic and invasive plants and wildlife and how to interact with nature in a way that leaves the minimum impact.

You’ll also learn what tools to take with you to help correct problems you encounter and receive a laminated guide to Florida plants and animals and laminated card of who to call to solve problems.

The class costs $5 for Florida Paddling Trails Association members. It is $25 for nonmembers, but the price includes a one-year association membership.
