Deputies Nab Armed Bank Robbery Suspect

Pasco officials say the Achieva Federal Credit Union in New Port Richey was robbed this morning.

A suspected bank robber climbed into a black Pontiac Sunfire and headed eastbound on State Road 54 after Pasco County deputies say he struck an Achieva Federal Credit Union branch this morning.

The suspect likely thought he’d made a clean getaway, but deputies proved it was anything but.

They caught up with the armed man just minutes after the robbery occurred at the 5920 State Road 54 bank.

According to a sheriff’s office media release, a man walked into the bank around 9:58 a.m. today, Dec. 20, and flashed a handgun at a teller. That man left the bank on foot with an undisclosed amount of money. He was seen getting into a black Pontiac.

Deputies caught up with him minutes later and after a short pursuit on State Road 54 were able to detain him. The suspect is now in questioning.

More details will be released at a later time.

I was driving down 54 when this took place and I think the police did a fantastic job of, first, blocking the traffic safely at the intersection of 54 and Little and then subduing the suspect. I got a couple pictures of how expertly they handled this event.
