Teen Daughter Comes Home To Murder-Suicide Scene

Update (12:48 p.m., Feb. 12): Police have identified the suspect in Monday's apparent murder -suicide as Rex Shelton, 57.
He lived at 8634 Spanish Moss Dr. Port Richey, with the ex-husband of Tina Diane Lane, the woman who died in the incident.
He has been described as a close family friend of Lane and her ex-husband.
Police say he attacked Lane in her bedroom at the Maplewood Drive home in the late morning or early afternoon.
Police have said she died "as a result of homicidal violence characterized as blunt force trauma." Authorities say she was defenseless
"She suffered traumatic upper body injuries and died in the bedroom," Police Chief James Steffens said in e-mail.
Shelton then went to the home's garage and hung himself.
The nature of the relationship between Lane and Shelton is still being investigated.
Update (7 p.m.): Police are now investigating the deaths of the man and woman whose bodies were found in a home on Maplewood Drive as an apparent murder-suicide.
A teenage girl, who was the daughter of the woman found in the house, came home Monday, entered the house and found the man's body hanging inside. At that point, she called the authorities. She did not see her mother's body.
It looks like the woman died "as a result of homicidal violence characterized as blunt force trauma," said New Port Richey Police Chief James Steffens.
The man was found in part of the residence the woman that was not near, he said. He was not a relative and didn't live at the home, but he is an acquaintance of the woman, police said.
The suspect in the incident is the man inside the house. Steffens said the agency is not looking for any other suspects.
"I've got a teenage daughter that goes to school and comes home and finds a dead man in her house, and we have to tell her that her mom is dead inside of there," Steffens said. "That is traumatic. My heart goes out this family."
Police have not released the name of the man or woman.
The Tampa Tribune reports the police identified the woman as Tina Diane Lane, 37.
Update Feb. 11, 5:42 p.m.: The bodies discovered this afternoon belong to a man and a woman, according Chief James Steffens. No positive identification has been made at this time, but police believe the woman lived at the address. It is thought the man did not live at the home and was not related to the woman.
The person who discovered the bodies was a child, but police will not confirm if the child belongs to the woman.
No information has been released on the cause of death.
The New Port Richey Police Department is investigating a double fatality case at 6018 Maplewood Drive.
According to a media release from the agency issued at 4:10 p.m. Feb. 11, there are two confirmed fatalities inside the home and the investigation is in the preliminary stage. The agency, however, is handling the case as a homicide investigation, the release said.
The Pasco County Sheriff’s Office has been called to the scene to assist with processing forensic evidence.
