Man Accused of False Bomb Threats at Local Schools

Chad Key is accused of give false reports of bombs planted at Richey Elementary School and Chasco Elementary School.

 

Authorities have arrested a man in connection with recent false bomb threats.

The false claims of bombs were at made in reference to possible devices at Chasco Elementary Schoool in Port Richey and Richey Elementary School in New Port Richey on Thursday, Feb. 21.

Law enforcement officials searched the schools, which were evacuated, and didn’t find anything suspicious.

Authorities said in a press release that the New Port Richey Police Department received a call of a bomb threat at 9:09 a.m. Thursday. The Pasco County Sheriff’s Office identified the call’s point of origin.

New Port Richey Police went to the home of Chad Allen Key, at 7849 Raintree Drive, New Port Richey. Key was home and taken to the police station, where he was questioned by deputies.

He told deputies he made the false report and claimed he wanted to commit suicide by being killed by a law enforcement officer, according to arrest reports.

Key was arrested and charged with two counts of false report of planting a bomb and two counts of disruption of an educational institution, according to a press release.

Thank goodness they caught this guy, it's a shame we have to worry about our kids and grandchildren going to school.I got a call yesterday that they had evacuated my grandson from Chasco.

This guy sounds like he is sick because he IS sick. What amazes me is why these sick people target schools & young children .There should be zero tolerance for anyone doing, or threatening anything to a school. no revolving door. Take them out of society immediately & keep them out.

Just because it was 'only' a threat just means that he was toying with the idea of doing it & may have actually escalated to action once the 'fun' of the threat became old.
