Obama Endorses Gay Marriage, Do You?
We want to hear what you think about this issue.
Barack Obama has a history of presidential firsts.
He was the first black president elected in America. And now, according to The Huffington Post, he’s the first sitting president to declare support for same-sex marriage.
"I've always been adamant that gay and lesbian Americans should be treated fairly and equally," the post quotes Obama as saying.
How much of a political impact Obama’s action will have remains to be seen. Huffington Post reports that the issue lies largely in the hands of states and the courts.
What do you think about same-sex marriage? Let us know in the comments section.

I fully and totally support same-sex marriage. I don't understand in this day and age why this is still a fight.

I am completely in favor of it. Why should anyone think it is any of their concern with whom I am involved with, up to and including marriage. Consenting adults, no animals or children, should be able to do as they please.

Like MAAAANY areas, how about we get the Govt out of the marriage business??
And even better, how about we quit putting people into groups? Gays don't have rights, nor do blacks or whites or the young and old........................if you truly believe in Liberty for all, realize we ALL have the same rights.

For a country that prides itself on individual freedom, to deny someone the freedom to marry the person that they are in love with is purely a purely religious stand. Last I checked, wasn't religion supposed to not be in government? If the government is going to be in the marriage business, then two people who want to marry should be afforded the ability to do so. If not then the government should get out of the marriage business all together.
Another thing, if the "sanctity of marriage" is so important to so many, why is it when all of these constitutional amendments, (including the one right here in Florida), that ban same sex unions of ANY kind; why have they not banned divorce. I think that is a far bigger threat to the "sanctity of marriage".

I agree with all your comments and may I add when they throw in that marriage is for the raising of children then fine be that way - BUT for those who CHOOSE to not have children, or who can't have children for any reason, deny them the right to marry, can't base marriage on the fact of raising children, no offense to the older population, but do you want to have children at your age? no so if anyone bases marriage on that part then for that reason alone marriage should be for that sole purpose. just my 2 cents

I look forward to the day when this is no longer an issue at all. In fact, right now might be a good time to start changing your language usage. Instead of asking a man you've just met if they have a girlfriend or wife, perhaps you might start asking if they have a partner, instead. Same with a woman you've just met. What small steps can you take to demonstrate acceptance?

Well as a grandmother, and in my late 70s, I was talking with most of my neighbors about this and they all agreed, we aren't the ones getting married to somebody of the same sex, so what's the big deal? If two individuals (consenting adults) want to then it's their business. We scream at the top of our lungs that we are the best country in the world, respecting rights, and sticking our nose into other countries which have given same-sex couples rights, and then here we deny our own? Kind of hypocritical if you ask me. I am still voting for Obama in November, so this is a non-issue for me. Glad he finally "evolved."

Sean Fleeman, actually.........GOVT isn't supposed to be involved with religion.
First Amendment:
"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."
Sadly, all the above has been eroded away.
Nice call on the "Banning of Divorce."

as a founder of a very open minded church, I feel that all these mega church's that openly endorse a political candidate should have their 503(c)3's revoked if they have one. It is a clear violation of separation of church and state and as such they need to have their tax exempt status removed immediately. when people ask me who it is that I support or endorse, I say that is for me to know only that as a man of god in this position I can not make a comment that may in any way persuade another persons vote, plain and simple

All people have the right to love and live with the person they love. Red, yellow, black, brown or white, who cares. What effect does it have on the way that I live and or love. They don't pay my bills and I don't pay theirs. Find the person that you love and loves you and have a wonderful happy life together. We are two women, married, love and live together for 29 years. Oh, and by the way, we voted Obama in and we will vote for him again.

I haven't seen any comments anywhere about the group that will benefit most from the move - lawyers. More people getting married = more divorces which is more $$ for lawyers.

I think it's sad that we are so up tight about marriage. I think that very one should have the right to be happy in this country, same sex or not. Have we forgotten how this country got started??? freedom to do what we want.( within the reason) I'm so sick & tried of Washington's B.S. I think we should vote these people OUT. take that money & pay your teachers to teach your children not to be bigots...........

Yes I do, and my church Be The Light Metaphysical Center in New Port Richey will perform any marriage even for the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered community, love is love and god really doesn't care who it is that you love. The bible was written by MEN, men who wanted power and control, so it is about time a man with power and control opened up in support of Gay Marriage - so everyone with an open mind and heart is more than welcome at our church - welcome home!

Rev Michael Carborne, your understanding of the First Amendment is waaaaay off and your comment shows you are actually against it.
There is no separation of church and state in the founding documents. What it says, since most cannot read for themselves, is the STATE/GOVT cannot establish a religion. The powers-that-be weren't to meddle in Religion. This was due to the history of rulers using Religion.
Even though most believe it to be, Separation of Church and state is NOT in the Constitution. The phrase actually comes from a letter written by Thomas Jefferson.
To believe "Religion" can be kept out of politics is living in a fantasy world. Religion drives people, their thoughts, decisions, actions. To believe this can be left at home after becoming an elected official is to not be human.
The Govt has violated the First Amendment by making the churches become.....basically charities. This is the Govt being involved in the Churches.....a big no-no. The 503c3's have got to go.......because in your world and the 503c3 world, the GOVT CONTROLS THE CHURCH. This isn't how it was intended to be.
And keeping in your world, the Govt completely destroys the First Amendment by not allowing leaders to speak freely. What is wrong with you that you believe a MAN....a simple man, regardless of calling in life......a man cannot give his thoughts or opinions on political matters? Is this Soviet Russia or North Korea?? I pray you realize you are FREE to speak freely.
