Obama Rally in Ybor City Draws Thousands of Supporters

President Barack Obama's rally was held this morning in Centennial Park.

On Thursday morning before an energized crowd of thousands of supporters, President Barack Obama made a stop at Ybor City's Centennial Park during a campaign tour that stretched from Iowa to Virginia.

After cheers from the crowd, he took the stage around 9 a.m., first thanking Tampa Bay residents for getting up early this morning to see him. Then, he joked about casting his own ballot later today.

"I'm going to stop in Chicago, and do some early voting in Chicago," Obama said. "I can't tell you who I'm voting for. It's a secret ballot. Michelle (Obama) said she's voting for me."

He moved on to address more serious matters during the "America Forward!" grassroots rally, talking about the importance of trust. He spoke between chants of "Four more years," from the crowd.

"Trust matters, and Florida, you know me," Obama said. "You know I say what I mean, and I mean what I say. We haven't finished all the work we set out to do in 2008. Every single day when I set foot in that Oval Office, I'm thinking about you. I am fighting for your families."

He told the crowd what he's accomplished after being elected in 2008, saying he upheld his promises to repeal "Don't Ask, Don't Tell," pass health care reform and preserve Medicare. He encouraged voters to compare his plan to Romney's before making a decision on the ballot.

"We've got a long way to go," Obama said, "but Florida, we've come too far to turn back now."

Both Obama and Republican candidate and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney have campaigned strongly in Florida, considered a battleground state, with just a few weeks left before November's general election. Romney is scheduled to appear in Land O' Lakes on Saturday.

Thursday's grassroots rally, held a few days after the last presidential debate on Monday night, brought about 8,500 Obama supporters from all over Tampa Bay, according to Fire Marshal Milton Jenkins of Tampa Fire Rescue.

Some wore Obama T-shirts. Others brought their kids or stood in packs behind a metal gate to catch a glimpse of the commander in chief.

Kayshondra Baroulette of Temple Terrace said she attended the rally with hopes of hearing encouraging words from Obama.

"I believe he can make a change," she said, "and he will if he is re-elected."

Lara Jackson of St. Petersburg brought her daughter, Harper Jackson, who is 11 days old, to Thursday's rally.

"I believe it's important to protect women's rights," Jackson said before the rally began. "She believes it, too," Jackson added, pointing to her daughter.

"I'm hoping to hear what his plans are," Jackson said, "because I'm confident we'll have him for the next four years."

At the end of his 20-minute speech, Obama had a few requests for the crowd:

"Knock on some doors for me. Make some calls for me. Vote for me ... we'll win Florida again. We'll win this election again."

Did you attend the Obama rally? Tell us in the comments.

Since defeating the chameleon Romney during the last two debates, the momentum appears to be shifting back towards Pres. Obama. The excitement is back in the Obama campaign and you can see it in the crowds that turn out to see the President. The people are starting to see right through Romney. He is just like a used car salesman who will say anything to make a sale. Romney has no integrity and will change his position daily if he thinks that it will help him get elected. Romney is only for the top 1%. Pres Obama is for everybody else.

Two of the most important points from Obama's speech this morning:

"...I don't think any politician in Washington, most of whom are male, should be making healthcare decisions for women..."

and

“When you elect a president, you’re counting on someone you can trust to fight for you, who you can trust to do what they say they’re going to do, who you can trust to make sure that when something unexpected happens he or she is going to be thinking about your family, your future...Trust matters!”

Really... you trust this guy when he lied to us about the terrorists and the killing of our ambassador for two weeks. I don't understand how anyone would trust this man after not just this but his cover ups and his arrogance in only enforcing laws of the land that he supports. That is real dangerous. Even if one agrees that they don't like a law that is not the way to change it. That is dictatorship. He is killing business and we will become the next Greece if he is elected again.

So the libs want the bigger government, socialism that will bankrupt the country, more regulations so that businesses will be dictated to by Obama and his aministration. Obama covered up what really happened in Libya to make his policies look good which did not work, he lies and covers up, leaks from the white house putting our people in danger, fast and furious, he raises taxes tremendously with Obamacare and now he proposes more taxes, ignore real problems with Social Security and wants to kick the can down the road, makes under handed deal with other countries because as he stated to the Russians, I will have more flexibility when I am re-elected. What is he doing giving our country away? Growing bigger government, over regulation by dept. like EPA, 16 trillion in debt, poor understanding of growing jobs, no valid strategic energy policy, ect. Sorry but Obama is so incompetent he does not deserve to be in office 4 more months let alone 4 more years.

Progressives aren't seeking "socialism" as you allege. They simply want a government that will protect workers and the middle class and not just give more tax cuts for millionaires. We want government regulations that protect us from greedy Wall Street bankers, from polluters like BP who spilled millions of gallons of oil in our waters, from giant agri-business who sell us dangerous foods, from polluters who dump toxins into our land and water, and from wealthy private health insurers who deny us coverage due to pre-existing conditions. We want the Republicans to admit that it was the Bush administration that started two wars in Iraq and Afganistan and then refused to pay for it causing our deficit. It was the Republican's lack of regulations on bankers and Wall Street that led to the housing meltdown. Finally, we want a government that will protect programs like Social Security and Medicare for the middle class and stop advocating additional tax cuts for the wealthy.

Joe C.,
The regulations that caused the credit bubble were created by both parties over 3 decades, so blaming it all on Bush is as reckless as people who blame it all on Obama. The BP spill was due to a quest for profits, which isn't going to change regardless of who is in office. So you can't blame any administration for that. Just the inspectors who looked the other way, instead of pressing the issue. I do not believe Bush was an inspector. Niether party is truly going to protect S.S. or Medicare, because both need serious overhauling. The Affordable Health Care in how it is written is a good start, unfortunitely both sides of the media outlet are falsely reporting on what it will do.

All you seem to be able to do is tick off a bunch of nonsense that you strung together from reading the scroll at the bottom of your Fake News screen. That's all you can do - parrot the crap that's put out there in order to manipulate low-information voters such as yourself with overt (although you can't even see it) appeals to your seething resentment and dissatisfaction with your own life. So yeah, keep blaming other people - The Others - for your problems. Don't take responsibility for anything, and don't read anything factual. Just keep lazily sitting there and absorbing low-brow propaganda from commercials that are put out there to manipulate you.

Obama is making our country economically worse and we will become Greece if he stays. I know what Obama has done and had to put up with it during his term. No way would I shoot myself in the foot again when I know it. Socialism is not something that I thought our country would ever support but I guess when people "think" something is free then they will vote for the devil. What happens if all the rich people and middle class throw up their hands and realize the government will just take anything extra you make to giver to someone else and decide they will quit too? Then where does all the support come from to continue Obama's socialistic policies?

Maybe the support comes from the fact that America will not become Socialist under any president without the legislative branch agreeing with it. So all the false fears of becoming a socialist nation in only 4 years seems like fearmongering by a pandering media and people who do not understand how our government actually works. Civics and American Government needs to be a requirement for voters apparently. I like how you believe that because there have been some cultures that have failed at Socialism then all socialistic countries are failures. Why don't you check out how the German economy is doing or would that hurt your already horrible agrument. America isn't anywhere close to being a socialist or muslim culture. Let me guess your next agrument, will how come he hasn't visited Isreal? He must be Muslim. So I guess Reagan, George H. Bush, and the 5 other presidents since the establishment of Isreal that didn't visit were also Muslim? With a population that is 76% registered Christian we are not going Muslim either. Infact our forefathers who apparently smarter than most of us now, made sure of that with our consititution. If you don't like him that is fine, but don't bring up these false agruments.

The military is not overwhelmingly supporting Romney. I think that what you are confusing is that the military traditionally supports Republicans over Democrats. But despite the largest efforts ever to make military voting easier than ever, you have the lowest number of absentee voter requests for active military. So what this shows is far from overwhelming support. What it shows is overwhelming apathy over the fact that the Republican field was so weak this year, that Romney was the best that they could get and enlisted military are showing that they don't care enough this year to bother voting for him.

Notice how "Patriot" pretends he's a real "patriot" even though he never does the intellectual work to inform himself as a citizen? Thomas Jefferson would be so proud of him! Could you imagine this guy sitting around a table among a panel of educated, informed citizens who are discussing what to do, politically, in order to bring maximum benefit to the citizens of our nation? Others at the table would be discussing topics like economics, social policy, military strategy, etc., from a completely evidence-based, empirical perspective - perhaps agreeing on some points, disagreeing on others, but all the while showing evidence that they're done the intellectual work to inform themselves, form considered opinions, and discuss them like ladies and gentlemen. "Patriot" would disintegrate into a fit of apoplectic paranoia.

When they got around the table to "Patriot", he'd be screaming like a 12-year-old, calling them "Libs!!!!" and assailing them as "un-American!!!' and then perhaps chanting "USA! USA! USA!" like some kind of propaganda-addled loon.

Last refuge of a scoundrel, all right. Pathetic.

And there is a vast stretch between a social democracy and a country run under Socialism. Your biggest problem is that you are so dumbfoundingly ignorant on the subject, that you don't even realize how ridiculously your posts read.

Let me try to break it down for you. Have you ever had a child become enraged because they think that they are right about something and it isn't even worth your time arguing the point, because 1) they are a child and 2) whatever the issue, you know that the realities are far beyond the cognitive ability of the child, to understand? "Obama's a socialist!" Sorry, but that is simply bat-shit crazy. "Socialist" is not a synonym for "black", I'm sorry to say. You don't even know what socialism is. You've never read anything about it. You have no historical perspective, and you are incapable of providing a single example in support of your wild-eyed assertions. All you do is attack others who are far better informed than you are, inventing fictitious motives that you ascribe to them and then screeching about how much more of an "American" you are, based on your invented assertion. That's all you've got - NOTHING.

What you do can't even be called circular reasoning because there is no evidence that you employ even a rudimentary element of reason. Patriot,
Love you ability to make assumptions on everything. I'm a well education with post graduate degrees. Have studied political theory for my job to better support our Men and Women who protect this country. And your assumption that someone who doesn't agree with you is a liberal/socialist/Obama supporter is the classic I don't have a real agrument defense. You notice that you didn't really respond to any of the facts I presented. I guess understanding how our government works isn't important to you as a voter. So here comes Definition Time:
Socialism:
: any of various economic and political theories advocating collective or governmental ownership and administration of the means of production and distribution of goods
2a : a system of society or group living in which there is no private property b : a system or condition of society in which the means of production are owned and controlled by the state
3: a stage of society in Marxist theory transitional between capitalism and communism and distinguished by unequal distribution of goods and pay according to work done

Guess Obama is going to take people's homes, businesses, etc.. away in the next 4 years. Also Obama is going to force Congress to make all business and their profits owned by the Government. According to you in 4 years all business/personal profits will be owned by the government. Of course you must be looking at the we are moving towards Communinism, because there is no proof of that.

The Quote of the Decade:
"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America's debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the US Government cannot pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government's reckless fiscal policies. Increasing America 's debt weakens us domestically and internationally. Leadership means that, "the buck stops here.' Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren. America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better."

1. Is the economy better off now than it was four years ago? Based on the evidence, I'd have to say no. Wages are down, the the prices of everything we buy is up. The price of gas has doubled. Good jobs are scarce.
2. Are the slight "up tics" in the economy a solid trend in the right direction? I don't think so. First, the gains are very slight. Second, I believe they are the result in the temporary stimulus by the Federal Reserve, in which they printed a lot of new money. It provides a slight bump now, but the cost will come later - after the election. Ben Bernanke is trying to save Obama's job, along with his own.
3. The continual misrepresentation of Romney on the auto bailout by the Obama administration. Obama appears to be taking complete credit for the bailout, while simultaneously saying that Romney was for liquidation of the auto industry. This is an absolute falsehood. It was Bush who initiated the bailout and TARP. Obama continued it and then expanded it, to his credit. However, Romney was one of the first to say that the industry needed to go through bankruptcy reorganization, and eventually they did exactly that. He also said that any needed loans should come from the private sector. He never said that the industry should be liquidated, or that he would deny federal funds if he were president, and private sector funds were not available. Obama lies!
4. The Benghazi coverup and lies.
