Obama vs. Romney: Debate Night Emails Tell Their Own Story
Both campaigns reached out to voters and the media during and after the third presidential debate Oct. 22.
It’s not uncommon for presidential campaigns to send out emails to supporters and the media during a national debate.
After all, it’s a great way to reiterate a candidate’s message and make sure it’s sent out loud and clear.
President Barack Obama and Gov. Mitt Romney’s campaigns both used the mass email tactic during and after the third and final debate Oct. 22. The headlines on the messages sent out, however, tell their own story — so do the number of emails sent.
Obama’s campaign sent out eight emails during and after the debate. The subject lines included:
- What They’re Already Saying: President Obama Strong Out of the Gate, Romney Unsteady and Unstable
- FACT CHECK: Mitt Romney Would Take Us Back
- At Halftime, Mitt Romney Is All Over the Map on Foreign policy
- More Reviews: President Obama Continues Strong Performance, Romney Showing He Isn’t Qualified to be Commander in Chief
On the flipside, the Romney campaign sent out two emails.
The first was released under Vice Presidential hopeful Paul Ryan’s name. Its subject line was: “Help Make America Strong Again.”
The second came out under Romney’s name and was sent just before midnight Oct. 22. It had “Help Me Restore the America We Love” in the subject line.
We want to know what Tampa Bay thinks! How do you think the campaigns did with their messaging? Do you think Romney’s emails were too soft? Was the Obama campaign too harsh? Share your thoughts in the comments section.

The e-mails sent out by each of the campaigns show a major difference between the campaigns. The Pres. Obama's e-mails described what was actually happening during the debate. Pres. Obama was confidently winning the debate with his foreign policy expertise while Romney was just basically agreeing that the President was correct in his foreign policy approach to Iraq, Afganistan, Egypt, Iran, Syria, etc. In contrast, the e-mails that Romney sent out had nothing to say about debates. The e-mails were just tired slogans about helping him bring America back and helping him restore the America that Romney loves. Pres. Obama has many ideas to keep America moving forward. Romney and Ryan want to return America to a past that they love where women had no equal pay, there were no abortion rights, there was no Medicare, no social safety net, a world of few business regulations, a world where robber barons controlled the economy, when most people worked for little pay, had no benefits, and generally lived short lives. These are the so-called glory days that Romney and Ryan will return America back to if they are elected.

Ditto Joe. It scares to heck out of me to think of Romney in the oval office. I don't think America will survive it.

No question here, Romney showed his true colors. He is willing to say whatever he thinks we want to hear. Depending on his audience he will make stuff up to try and appease them.

Anyone know if the President's new plan is posted online? They've apparently made millions of copies to hand out, but don't think online. A little disappointed since only 2 weeks to election, but better late than never. I hope is fills the blank spot and addresses tax reform and spending reforms (e.g., entitlements).
Although we need to raise revenues to help close DEBT gap, I'd be careful w this shaky economy. Many think"During the Clinton years, we raised taxed yet saw growth". However, some big differences now vs 90s:
(1) We saw a large increase in productivity and growth was spurred in 90s as a result of the Internet boom (and increased use of computers). In fact, such a boom it formed a bubble that popped in 2000 ("Dot Com Crash").
(2) The Republican Congress and Clinton implemented some important reform (e.g., Welfare) which helped the economy by increasing confidence and improving incentives.
(3) We face much much stiffer competition from global competitors.
(4) Higher ratio of entitlement recipients/workers compared to 90s.
(5) Global slowdown vs 90s.
(6) It's new post "credit boom" and the new normal.
In sum, our circumstances today are much different compared to 90s. We need tax reform (simplifying) and overall spending reforms ASAP.

JByrd,
I have looked for both plans last Saturday on their websites, and neither with specifics were posted.
