Pasco Deputies: Man Tells Son to Steal Copper
A man distracted a woman while his son entered her home to steal something, deputies say.
Troy Davis went to the home of a woman in the Port Richey area on Friday and walked into her backyard with her to talk about a bicycle parked there.
He had previously stayed with the woman at her home, but on the day of the alleged crime he was instead staying at a motel in Holiday, according to a Pasco County Sheriff’s Office arrest report. He went to the woman’s house on Friday with his 9-yearold son and another male.
While Davis and the woman were in the yard, a neighbor saw the boy run into the house and then exit carrying a coffee can. The can contained 1.5 pounds of copper.
Davis later told deputies he told his son to take the copper. He then sold the can at a scrap business for $4.
The 9-year-old told a deputy he took the can because “we need money.”
Davis, who is “transient”, was arrested Saturday and charged with petit theft and dealing in stolen property. He remained in jail Monday in lieu of $5,150 bail.
