A New Port Richey family is getting some much-needed support thanks to their $5,000 victory in a social media contest. 

Lori and Jason "Jay" Griggs are the winners of Tampa-based Laser Spine Institute's "Make a Comeback" contest, a company spokesperson said Friday.

The prize money will go toward physical therapy for their 4-year-old daughter Kiley, who has cerebral palsy, to help improve her strength, mobility and flexibility.

Lori, a teacher at Rushe Middle School, and Jason, a firefighter in Dunedin, dream of Kiley being able to walk on her own some day. She can’t now.

A portion will also pay for chiropractic care and massage therapy for Jay, a firefighter for more than 10 years, who has four herniated discs in his neck, causing him numbness and tingling down his left arm. The treatment will allow him to continue to hold and care for his daughter.

The Griggs family entered a video for the contest and received the most votes via Facebook and YouTube.

The family also won the grand prize in last year's Upromise Dream Wall sweepstakes last year, which they used to enroll Kiley in TheraSuit Therapy to help Kiley move toward the goal of walking. Their latest prize money will allow them to continue the therapy.

“She finished her last session in November and one month later started taking a few steps in her walker unassisted,” Lori previously told Patch. “That is a huge step for us. With additional physical therapy, we are on our way to having her walk in her walker longer distances.”
