‘Relentless’ Search Continues in Moon Lake Beating Case

Pasco County deputies are still looking for the third person wanted in connection with a beating and robbery.

As Pasco County detectives work leads to locate the third suspect in a beating and robbery that took place over the weekend in Moon Lake, Sheriff Chris Nocco is promising his agency will be “relentless” in its pursuit.

Deputies have already arrested two people in connection with the case, but 26-year-old Vanessa Musson remains at large.

“She knows we’re looking for her,” Nocco said Wednesday morning. “All we can do now is encourage her to turn herself in.”

In the meantime, Nocco said detectives are working leads in the case and are being “relentless” in their efforts to bring Musson in on charges that include attempted murder, aggravated battery, grand theft auto and grand theft firearm.

The incident that led to the hunt for Musson took place in the early evening hours of Sept. 14 at 13124 Midvale Ave. According to authorities, Bobbie Jo Curtis, 40, and her son Bryan Curtis, 16, were invited by Joseph Bruno, 44, to stay at his home. Bobbie Jo Curtis and Bruno met on an online dating site.

The Curtises had been living with Bruno for a week before the attack, deputies have said. The two Curtises and Musson are accused of tying up Bruno, beating him and stealing household items, guns and his Ford Econoline van. They are also accused of beating David Lee Ragon, 69, a neighbor who saw the suspects try to leave the home with Bruno’s property.

Both Ragon and Bruno required hospitalization following the attack. Ragon has since been released, but information on Bruno's condition is not available. He was last listed in critical, but stable condition.

The Curtises were arrested over the weekend, but Musson has so far escaped capture. Musson stole several firearms during the attack and is believed to be “armed and dangerous,” according to the sheriff’s office. She may also still be in possession of Bruno’s 2000 white Econoline van that has a roof/ladder rack and tag 366TQH.

Musson has tattoos on her back, ankles and chest, including one saying "Nessa" on her arm. She has been arrested in Pasco County several times in the past. Previous charges include drug-related offenses and battery, according to jail records.

Deputies believe Musson may have lightened her hair and even cut it to avoid being recognized.

The sheriff’s office is warning people not to approach Musson, but to instead call them at 727-844-7711 if they have tips about her whereabouts.
