Rum River Offers Catches’ Quality Food in a Tiki Bar
Enjoy drinks and burgers on the Pithlachascotee River.
Catches Restaurant now has a tiki bar called Rum River. The timber and palm-roofed structure sports an enormous bar and offers the same quality food as its mother restaurant in a relaxed, outdoor environment. The hostesses always greet you with a friendly smile, and the servers are also friendly and attentive.
Service can be spotty. Sometimes everything clicked right along. Other times when things moved a bit slowly. But then, we’re usually not at Catches to have a quick dinner.
As far as appetizers are concerned, I recommend the oysters Rockefeller appetizer anytime and the spinach-artichoke dip, served with tortilla chips.
You can order sandwiches and burgers as well as full dinner entrées and salads. The ribeye steak sandwich is garnished with onion straws, tomato and lettuce and is served tender and prepared exactly to order. The Angus burger is chargrilled. Try the house-made chips as a side. They needed salt, but I’m sure if they came pre-salted others would complain that they were too salty. The coleslaw alternative is creamy and tasty.
I have also, on occasion, paired the bacon-wrapped scallop appetizer with a dinner salad and baked potato to make a dinner. The scallops are served with a teriyaki sauce that provides an excellent complementing flavor, but, if that’s not to your taste try drawn butter. Their fish and chips is made with tender, flaky cod in a crispy batter crust, served with crispy fries just begging to be dowsed with malt vinegar.
Rum River also offers a full bar and drinks and entertainment on weekends.
