Shelves Empty As Local Sweetbays Close Early

The stores were originally scheduled to stay open a bit longer.

On Monday, the two local Sweetbay Supermarkets that were scheduled to close later this month actually closed early. According to TBO.com, the sales at the stores left the shelves empty enough that the stores closed their door earlier than planned. The two local stores were:

  • 833 Mitchell Blvd., Trinity
  • 7431 State Road 54, New Port Richey

Several local Sweetbay Supermarkets were among 33 under-performing stores in Florida scheduled to close in February.

Many stores begain liquidation sales in the last 2 weeks, with some stores offering as much as 50 percent off.

Did you go to one of these stores, let your neighbors knowhow the sales were by posting in the comments below.

The store at Anclote Blve & Alt. 19N closed too. That was my favorite Sweetbay. It was an older neighborhood store & was always busy when I went, but the corp. had opened a shiny new store down alt 19 a bit & I knew over a year ago that my Sweetbay's days were numbered. It is sad though, as I liked that store & the people that I got to know when I shopped there. Good luck to them all. All the other Sweetbay stores are too far away & I won't get to them often. The Alt 19N & Anclote was very close & convenient. I guess I won't be shopping at Sweetbay much anymore. It's a shame, I liked my Sweetbay.

I am guilty of not shopping at the Sweetbay which was right across the street from my neighborhood. But I did shop there for meat. Their meat department was the best!! Now I have to pay the higher prices at Publix or go to dreaded Walmart : \
I'm going to miss having the convenience of the store across the street when I'm fixing dinner and forgot to buy a certain something. I'll have to send one of the kids a mile down the street to one of two Publix supermarkets.
I'm hoping that they open an LA fitness at the location in Trinity!!
