Watch West Pasco Clowns Seek Win in 'The Amazing Race'

Stop reading if you’ve heard this one before.

Professional clowns Dave and Cherie Gregg apply to enter CBS’ Amazing Race. They don’t hear anything back.

Two other clowns did make the cut. Sound like the punchline?

No.

Here’s the punchline: Almost 10 years later, the"Amazing Race contacted the Greggs through their employer and invited them to audition.

The Greggs, who live in West Pasco County off of Moon Lake Road when they’re not travelling, got to compete in the most recent season of "The Amazing Race," which was filmed last year. The competition premieres Sunday, Feb. 19, at 8 p.m.

“We make our dreams come true in 10-year sprints,” said Dave Gregg.

The Greggs are Ambassadors of Laughter. They work for Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus. They don their costumes for free educational programs. They visit schools, libraries, hospitals.

The couple wanted to enter the fourth season of "The Amazing Race," which aired in 2003. Jon Weiss and Al Rios, also clowns for Ringling were chosen to compete, and the Greggs didn't receive a response to the video they submitted.

But they did get into this current season. Both Greggs are 44. They met in clown college and celebrated their 20th anniversary this week. They’re from Massachusetts and moved to Florida in the 1990s.

This is the 20th season of "The Amazing Race." The Greggs competed against the likes of Rachel Reilly who won “Big Brother” last season, her fiancé, Brendon Villega, and others. They faced 10 other teams.

The first episode of the season is titled “Tears of a Clown.” The season spans different nations.

The Greggs trained for the competition. They endured a 5k that took them through mud. They hiked mountains. They worked out at YMCAs. They used the training from their time in Ringling.

In addition to the physical challenge of the competition, they faced the task of getting along in rigorous conditions. Good thing they have practice living and working in close quarters.

When you travel frequently together in a 19-foot-van, living and working in close quarters, “You really know each other very well,” Cherie Gregg said

They also have practice continuing in the face of challenge.

When working with Ringling, “You learn the show must go on,” Dave Gregg said.

The Amazing Race's 20th season premieres at 8 p.m. on CBS on Sunday.
