West Pasco Goes Animal Crazy This Weekend
Pasco County Animal Services has two upcoming adoption events.
West Pasco residents wishing for something four-legged and furry under their trees this holiday season are in luck. Pasco County Animal Services is rolling out the red carpet for those wanting to adopt cats or dogs.
Animal Services, in fact, has two upcoming adoption events planned for this weekend.
The first event takes place Saturday, Dec. 8 from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Land O’ Lakes Community Center, 5401 Land O’ Lakes Blvd. During this event, potential adoptees will be able to check out some of the critters up for adoption during the Dogs’ Day Out celebration. In order to adopt one of the dogs on display, adoptees will have to take a trip to Animal Services' headquarters in Land O' Lakes.
Meanwhile, back at the Pet Adoption Center at 19640 Dogpatch Lane, animal lovers can stop by for an Adopt-a-thon that takes place from noon to 3 p.m. During this event, residents can draw coupons for adoption savings from a stocking. The savings range from $5 off to a complete waiver of adoption fees.
What’s that add up to?
According to Animal Services’ spokeswoman Judy Gregory, the savings can be significant.

“Our regular prices are $70 for a dog and $40 for a cat and the value of the adoptions is over $400,” Gregory said. “For the month of December, every adoptable pet is discounted with our ‘Stocking of Savings’ promotion.”
Animal Services currently has more than 30 dogs and 30 cats that are ready for adoption, Gregory said.
Pasco is Striving to ‘Save 90%’
As more and more Florida counties look at no-kill policies, Pasco is stepping up to the plate to try and increase its adoption numbers, Gregory said.
“In the past six weeks, we have announced that PCAS will be striving to reach a goal of Save 90%,” she said. “In an effort to move forward with this goal, we are reaching out to the community to help us. We have monthly promotions and events both on and off site to increase awareness about our shelter.”
This weekend’s events are designed to help make sure residents know about the animals available for adoption right in Pasco.
Other counties that are working to reduce their euthanasia numbers and increase adoptions include nearby Hillsborough and Manatee.

Pasco Animal Services is claiming attempts to become a no-kill shelter however the number of animals euthanized each and every week does nothing to support that claim. In fact, on Monday, the 26th of November, they euthanized 25 dogs....some of them being PUPPIES! The staff said that the animals were sick or aggressive however this is simply NOT true. Internal investigations are needed at the shelter and their Director, Mr. Malley, in particular, needs to be microscopically scrutinized.
PLEASE ADOPT A DOG........It is their only hope!

Sharon I agree with you 100%. They are rude, and cold also at that facility, with the exception of a few. I spoke to that director with a problem with an agressive dog running loose, and he was very rude to me. Some shouldn't be in the position of caring for animals, it's like they are on death row in that place and it's heartbreaking! I adopted a dog before he even made it in the door of the place, the dog began licking me and wagging his tail as I walked out of the building, he chose me! We've had him 3 yrs now, and he's the joy of our life. It's a shame we can't let him out in our fenced yard without getting ripped apart due to an agressive dog running in our yard, and nothing done with these people! The dogs run loose every single day.
