Woman Almost Run Over After Kidnapping Fails

The woman's husband is said to have found the man and gotten into a fight with him.

When a Sunday afternoon kidnapping attempted went south, Pasco County Sheriff’s Office deputies say the suspect tried to run over his intended victim with a truck.

According to a complaint affidvit, The incident occurred just before 5 p.m. June 12 as the victim was walking north on Sycamore Drive in New Port Richey East, an unincorporated area in Pasco County. The 28-year-old woman saw a 2000 gold Mazda pickup truck pass her. It then turned around and stopped in the middle of the road. At this point, the suspect got out of the truck and the victim told the man "to keep going,” an incident report said.

The suspect then said, “What are you going to do about it,” the affidavit said. The victim then yelled “honey,” and began to back away from the suspect.

According to the incident report, the suspect then said, "Why are you screaming honey, he can't hep you." The man also told the woman, "Don't worry, we're not going far, this won't take long."

The woman began to run from the suspect, but he chased her, the affidavit said. He caught up with the woman and grabbed her arm. She fell into a gopher hole and came up running toward a nearby house, the affidavit said.

At this point, the suspect got back into his truck and chased the woman off the road, “nearly striking her,” deputies say. The woman was able to get away. She ran home and told her husband what happened.

The suspect fled, but not before the woman was able to get his tag number, the report said.

The woman and her husband then began looking for the man. They found him still inside his pickup truck, which was parked nearby on Delray Drive. The husband and suspect got into a physical fight at this point, and Pasco County deputies were called out to the scene, the report said.

The suspect was arrested a short time later and taken to North Bay Hospital prior to being booked into the Land O' Lakes Jail.

The fight between the suspect and husband remains under investigation, said Doug Tobin, Pasco Sheriff's Office spokesman.

"We always advise people not to take matters into their own hands, but make sure you call the sheriff's office and let us investigate," he said.

Arrested was Justin Blair King, 36, of 9761 Delray Drive. He was charged with attempted kidnapping and aggravated assault with a motor vehicle. He was being held in the Land O’ Lakes Jail Monday without bond.
