Benefit Concert Rocks Sims Park

The second annual Rock the Park concert benefits the Center For Independence.

Hudson resident Patty Reeves visited Sims Park over the weekend and witnessed the second annual Rock the Park concert. Here are her word and images fdrom the event. Would you like to see more of Patty's images? Visit the Pattty Reeves Art and Images Facebook page. I went to Rock the Park in Sims Park on Saturday. Not knowing the Who, What or Why of the event, I found the one each person I asked, said I needed to speak to: Sean Kline. I asked him, "Take me through the concept for this event, when did you get the idea and why?" It was Christmas day in 2010 when Kline was celebrating the holidays with his family. His family busying with unwrapping gifts around the tree, he had a singular thought for the place he worked, The Center for …

Belly Dancing Returns to New Port Richey

Kashmir Nights Hafla provides a chance for dancers young and old to show off their creative moves on the dance floor to a crowd.

After sunset on May 15, Lady D swept onto a dance floor with a shawl flying above her and bare belly on display. Kashmir Nights Hafla, a belly dance show, has returned to Quality Inn Suites in New Port Richey. The resurrected event is a chance for dancers young and old to show off their creative moves on the dance floor to the entertainment of a crowd. Lady D is the stage name of Doris Berge, a 53-year-old woman who works as a document manager for the Pasco County government. She has belly danced for about 15 years, currently in Kashmir Nights and other Tampa Bay area haflas.  “It boosts my self-esteem,” said Berge, a New Port Richey resident. “It gives me confidence, but most of all, I love the sisterhood.”    GloriAnna Longton, a Port …

Zombiefest Shambles into West Pasco

The zombie party is hoped to create quite a scare in Port Richey.

The living dead shall rise on Saturday, April 28. Or, at least, the living posing as the undead. Zombiefest, the brain-eating child of West Pasco resident Chris Coffey and his friends, is starting at  2 p.m. at the Oasis Coffee Spot at 721 Little Road in the Port Richey area. There will be experts eager to “zombify” guests to make them look like the undead, a concert and local vendors. From there, the summoned undead walkers will make Port Richey a little scarier as they shamble off around 4:30 p.m. along Embassy Boulevard toward the Cinema 6 movie theater, at 9510 U.S. 19 in Port Richey. There, they’ll be able to partake in the past-times that all the col corpes like, such as zombie tag, a Michael Jackson-style "Thriller" dance and a …
