Attacks at Pagan Author's Home Raise Concerns

Kyrja Withers is offering a reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of whoever is behind a March shooting and April "bombing" at her property.

Heather Withers was outside the colorful house her father and stepmother live in on Washington Street in New Port Richey on the evening of April 15 when she saw a blue car on Washington. The vehicle passed the house going south and then turned around and came back toward the home. She said there was a young man in the driver’s seat and another in the front passenger seat with his body sticking out of the window. She said the driver was also coming out of the window. There was also a young man in the backseat. She says two bottles with fluid inside were thrown at the house from within the vehicle on its return alongside the home. One landed near a bush in the front yard of the house. She saw the bottle expand and tried to get away before it…

Charity, Did you read the article? People drove by her house yelling f'ing witch. The kids that her husband pulled over TOLD HIM the house was being targeted for that reason. I am studying Wicca myself and one major thing that attracted me to it was the freedom of expression and lack of judgment. Therefore, your comments really surprise me.   more ›

Jonas Brothers: Are They Still ‘Hot’ with Your Teens?

The trio has announced a Tampa stop on its summer tour – a first for the brothers in three years. That has us wondering: Are these guys are still “in” with your tweens and teens?

Back in 2010 there was no question that an announcement of a Jonas Brothers’ Tampa stop was a big deal. After all, Nick, Joe and Kevin were at the top of their game with hits like “Love Bug,” “Got Me Going Crazy” and “Hey Baby” “Burnin’ Up” the charts. They even broke hearts on their own television show and guest appearances on others. Tears flowed harder than the rain when flooding forced the brothers to cancel their Sept. 8, 2010, tour date at what was then known as the 1-800-ASK-GARY Amphitheatre in Tampa. Why would I know about or even remember that? No, I’m not a huge fan, but as it turns out my daughter was and she was there for her 11th birthday. To me, it seems like just yesterday that my sister-in-law called to say she had picked …

Harlem Shake Hits West Pasco

Have you seen the dance craze that's gone viral? Post your videos and photos here.

It looks like Pasco County residents are coming down with a case of the Harlem Shake. The dance craze, inspired by a YouTube video that went viral, hit Gulf High School's band room in February and the Mitchell High basketball court a couple weeks ago. The King of Wraps in Port Richey has also filmed a Harlem Shake video. Have you seen the Shake anywhere around town, or do you know of any shake ups planned in the area? Tell us, and post videos or photos here if you got ‘em.

Pharmboy Takes Home Film Fest Audience Award

The film, shot in Pasco, won the audience award in the Narrative Feature category at the Gasparilla International Film Fetival.

Audiences showed Pharmboy, a movie shot in Pasco County, some love last weekend. The movie was named winner of the Audience Award in the Narrative Feature category at the Gasparilla International Film Festival, which took place March 19 -24 in Tampa. The film tells a fictional tale about the very real problem of prescription pill addiction.  It tells the story of Gunner Barrett, a teenager who was born addicted to prescription pills. Lawrence Feeney, president of Pasco Films, is an independent filmmaker, and he wrote, cast, produced and directed the film himself and also got some producers, including Marc Dahl of Five Studios, to help. He also received a county grant. In addition, he took to “crowdfunding” platform Indiegogo to raise money…

Gasparilla Music Festival Wants to Put Tampa Bay on the Map

Organizers behind the second annual festival say there’s more to the event than meets the eye.

Scan the lineup for the upcoming Gasparilla Music Festival and it is clear organizers are hip on the idea of delivering an eclectic mix of sounds with artists ranging from blues and country to jazz and rock. What might not be clear is the vision for the festival, its future and the reasons why this one might be worth the drive from New Port Richey to attend. Now in its second year, the festival was designed with two main purposes in mind, organizers say: “We want people to come out and see positive change (in downtown) and see what a great place Tampa is to live in,” said David Cox, president of the nonprofit festival’s board of directors. The intent is to “not just draw for one day, but also (to provide) a draw to stay.” Roots for the one…

'Vicious and Very Bizarre' Crime Lands Pasco Deputies on National TV

The detectives will discuss the 2010 case of a housewife-turned-porn-star and her boyfriend's gruesome murder of a Tampa man.

It remains in Sergeant James Sessa's mind as one of the most horrific crime scenes he's worked in his long career: A mother and housewife-turned-porn-star and her boyfriend butchered a  man she met on Craigslist. And this Sunday, the bizarre story of Dennis Abrahamsen's murder will be retold in an episode of Snapped: Killer Couples on the Oxygen Network. Pasco Sheriff's Office Major Crimes detectives William Lindsey, James Gariepy, Daniel Toner and their supervisor, Sessa, will appear on the episode to discuss the investigation and subsequent arrests of Amanda Logue and Jason Andrews. Sessa said he wasn't surprised when the show's producers contacted the sheriff's office about the 2010 murder in New Port Richey. "The elements of this crime…
