Death Penlty in Florida. Does it need revision?

From the Tampa Bay Times

Five states have repealed the death penalty in the last five years, with Connecticut being the latest to do so in 2012. But as other states have become disenchanted with the ultimate punishment in light of so many wrongful convictions, Florida has moved in the opposite direction. Last year was the second straight that this state ranked first in the nation in new death sentences. There is no political will to follow the enlightened path of abolition, but Florida should analyze why it's such an outlier. One likely reason is that the state doesn't require a unanimous jury recommendation for a death sentence, and that should be corrected

Killing people to show that killing is wrong is not the answer. Put them away with no release, but killing them brings us down to their level. In the movie Cold Blood, by Truman Capote, at the end when the killers are hung, the detective says that in the end everyone was murdered in cols blood. The innocent & the guilty.
Besides, what if we make a mistake & kill someone that didn't do it?

I only agree with the death penalty when there is no doubt in the world of guilt. Tangible evidence. I personally think I would prefer death than life. Life can be long living in the most horrendous conditions such as a prison. Constant violence, fear of rape, getting stabbed, the lousy food. Day to day prison life may be worse than death. The only thing I disagree about the death penalty is that it can't bring the victim back. Nothing changes. The electric chair and gas chambers might have been inhumane but they have been replaced with a drug cocktail that flows through your veins and eventually kills you. Sounds pretty peaceful. It is more than Teri Shiavo was allowed to have. Her death sentence was starvation for what, 11 days ?

Another thing many anti death penalty persons don't consider is the family of the murder victim. Very hard to put yourself in the shoes of someone who lost a parent, spouse or child to some violent criminal. At that moment I am sure they would want to kill that person themselves.

That's vegence. I would feel the same way, but that doesn't make it right. If someone murders someone, that doesn't justify commiting murder in return. Murder is murder. It isn't right to murder to show that murder is wrong. It is understandable how if a family member is murdered that a person would want to murder back, but that doesn't make it right. It is at that moment because the victims family is insane with grief at that moment, but it's the wrong thing to do.
