Between having just wrapped up a hectic couple weeks, and getting an e-mail from a previously spotlighted band, I thought I'd do something a little different this month.

Around this time last year, I spotlighted the band Gypsy Star (the original Band Spotlight writeup can be found here). They are a very cool and eclectic World Music band, blending the romantic sounds of Western Europe with Mediterranean rhythms and flavors.

About two weeks ago, I received an e-mail from chief songwriter/guitarist Billy Keen about a new project they're looking to undertake. Here is an excerpt from that e-mail:

I'm writing to let you know that Gypsy Star is about to launch a Kickstarter campaign to raise funds for a high quality video of one of our live performances. Our plan, if we raise the funds, is to line up a multi-day shoot with a high caliber video company at a local venue. The final day of the shoot would be the live concert which will be open to the public. Date to be determined after the Kickstarter campaign.

For those not familiar with Kickstarter, it is a website that allows artists around the country showcase the latest creative endeavor they would like to take on, and allows anyone interested in the project to back the artists financially. Artists have a deadline to raise a set level of money, and if they don't, the project doesn't get funded, and they have to try again until they're successful.

The website has already helped several local musicians (including New Port Richey Christian Country artist Benjamin Jacob Rupe; also November Rush, The James-Lange Theory, Ted Lukas, and Zulu Wave) receive the funding they needed to either record a new EP/album or go on tour.

As of the time I wrote this, I have not yet been provided with a link to Gypsy Star's Kickstarter campaign. However, if helping to fund their video project sounds like something you'd be interested in, then keep your eye on the comments section of this blog post, as I'll be posting up the link as soon as I get it!
