The Gun Debate will go nowhere

Our forefathers didn't give us the Constitutional Right to bear arms for hunting. It was done to prevent a tyrannical Government from forcing it's will on the people.

We established however some, although not all its [self-government] important principles . The constitutions of most of our States assert, that all power is inherent in the people; that they may exercise it by themselves, in all cases to which they think themselves competent, (as in electing their functionaries executive and legislative, and deciding by a jury of themselves, in all judiciary cases in which any fact is involved,) or they may act by representatives, freely and equally chosen; that it is their right and duty to be at all times armed;
---Thomas Jefferson to John Cartwright, 1824. Memorial Edition 16:45, Lipscomb and Bergh, editors.

How did making alcohol illegal for those under 21 work out ?

Younger people have no problem getting and drinking alcohol .

How did making smoking under 18 illegal work out ?

Kids smoke. How about that ?

What about the War on Drugs ? Drugs are illegal?

That's a joke!

Those laws to make alcohol, smoking and drugs illegal have been on the books and it has made no difference.

Any attempt to ban weapons or any type of weapon will encourage illegal underground activity to obtain those weapons regardless. There will be more non registered illegal guns than there are now.

And then again, the reason we have a 2nd Amendment is to protect oneself against enemies, foreign and domestic, to protect ones property from invaders.

The one thing that would work to possibly limit any illegal activity such as underage drinking, smoking, drug use or crimes involving firearms to impose stronger harsher prison sentences .

The same people screaming and whining over guns are the same people who want drug crime sentences thrown out, they want marijuana legalized, they complain about 'unjust' prison sentences, the unfairness of being incarcerated.

Think about that. Criminals out there know if they commit a crime, their chances of serving time are low . They know how soft Judges have become. They know about prison over crowding, they know drug laws are so laxed that it is no longer a big deal to be found with them on your person.

Impose laws to make crimes severely punishable with long sentences.

It might make criminals think twice before doing something.

I know people who got away with a lot of stuff when they were kids. There was never consequences to their wrong doings. I was raised by a strict father who use his belt.

I didn't like the belt whippings so I abided by the rules more often than not.

This gun issue is a power struggle with the left they have been having for decades. It's about control. They are the tyrants who want to disarm the people.

They have fake compassion for the victims of these massacres. It's about the The Constitution that they feel is an old useless worn out piece of paper.

The US Constitution is the Law of the Land.

It will never be changed.

I do think for those who open weapons they should be responsible for those weapons by keeping them contained. And to impose sentencing if a crime is comitted by your weapon.

It is mentioned here that all the laws against smoking, drugs, gambling, prostitution, etc don't work Maybe laws against assault weapons won't work any more than a law against abortions would work, but each side wants to outlaw what the other feels is their right & both guns & abortions kill life. So the right trys to outlaw abortion & the left tries to outlaw guns. What else is new?
