From the Sun to Pluto 5/10K Run/Walk

$25.00

The local traveling children's museum, Investigation Station is holding its annual From the Sun to Pluto race in Starkey Park on Feb. 16th. Sponsored by San Francis Veterinary Hospital and the Tampa Bay Times, this is a trail run. The sign in table and start line will be located at the From the Sun to Pluto exhibit, which is where the bicycle path and the foot path from shelter #5 meet. There is a 5K walk and run, as well as a kids one-mile fun run. This year a 10K has been added. Start time is 8:30, the on-site registration table will open at 7:30. Medals for the top finishers in each age category, as well as trophies for the overall male and female runners in each the 5K and 10K will be awarded. All of the participants in the fun run will receive medals and a free kids pizza.

Investigation Station is raising money to sustain and increase the development of its current and future exhibits. The second annual From the Sun to Pluto 5K/10K run/walk will take participants through the trails of beautiful forest in Starkey Wilderness Park, as they wind through our scaled down solar system. Participants gain a better understanding of Earth's place in and the immense size of our solar system. All proceeds from this event will go towards Investigation Station's newest permanent outdoor exhibit project, an educational splash park. Children (and kids at heart) will be able to cool off while they learn about Florida ecology and the water cycle. A splash park features fountains, sprayers or other water features to wet visitors. In keeping with Investigation Station's goal to provide leisure education to visitors and residents of Pasco County, the splash park will include educational features. Museum volunteers will then develop, create, market and take a mobile version of the exhibit to classrooms and other venues for children to experience.
