FAMILIES IN THE New Port Richey AREA
ARE PLAYING AND VOLUNTEERING—TOGETHER

Upward Sports League Offers Something for Every Member of the Family

New Port Richey, Florida, November 19, 2012—In a time where families are pulled in a million different directions, the Redeemer Community Church of New Port Richey is bringing families and the community together. Upward Sports, the world’s largest Christian sports league for children, attracts more than 550,000 kids each year with its unique approach—teaching skills for the sports arena and values for life. “A positive sports environment helps children develop physical skills, get exercise, make friends, have fun, learn to play as a member of a team, learn to play fair, and improve self-esteem” (Source: American Academy of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry, 2005).

ABOUT UPWARD SPORTS:

Founded in 1995 by Caz McCaslin, Upward Sports is the world’s largest Christian sports league for children. The first-class sports programming—which includes basketball, flag football, soccer and cheerleading—provides a fun sports experience based on healthy competition for kids, teaching skills for the sports arena and values for life. Today, more than 550,000 children in 47 U.S. states and Canada participate in Upward Sports Leagues hosted by over 2,400 churches.

The Upward Sports Program is near and dear to League Director, Christopher Mahan and his wife Dee Mahan because they have personally experienced the impact this enriching sports program has on families and children.

According to Mahan, “The economic times have limited the availability school sport programs and the fees for recreation sports leagues have become too expense for many families. Upward Sports is reasonably priced, includes the entire uniform, anyone can volunteer and the season lasts for 10 weeks and this equates to fun for the entire family” (Mahan, 2012). This is a wonderful opportunity for parents and children to bond emotionally, mentally, socially, physically and spiritually in a positive environment.

To avoid player and parent burnout, Upward Sports Leagues limit the time commitment to one practice and one game per week. Upward Sports Leagues are 10-week programs that incorporate character-building principles into the sports experience.

This is the first year Redeemer Community Church is hosting has an Upward Sports League, starting with basketball and cheerleading and they have plans to expand into flag football, and soccer. Chris and Dee Mahan founded a league in Dallas, GA and the program continues to thrive and grow each year, their experience provides a solid foundation for Redeemer Community Church to build the Upward Sports program.

Upward Sports at Redeemer Community Church includes basketball and cheerleading for ages K-5thgrade with scholarships available. Full uniform is included in the sign-up fee. Registration has begun and will not finish until every child that wishes to participate has registered. For more information visit: www.RedeemerLife.org or call  727-842-5278 FREE  .
