Central Florida Native Makes her Mark near Nation's Capital

Emily Huegel, of Crystal River, Fla., graduated from the top 10 percent of her class with honors at Seven Rivers Christian School in Lecanto, where she served as president of her school's chapter of the National Honor Society and belonged to the Interact High School Rotary Club, International Thespian Society, Drama Club, Spirit Club and the tennis team.

And now, even before completing her first-year at George Mason University in Farifax, Va., near Washington, D.C., she earned enough credits to be deemed a sophomore. Huegel is majoring in business marketing with a minor in journalism.

“Business has always been a great passion of mine, especially marketing. I find it so fascinating to look at trends in the market and see the way businesses market themselves to consumers. I love the science of marketing and seeing how it motivates a person to buy one product over another.”

Huegel is keeping busy out of the classroom as well.  She’s highly involved in Campus Crusade for Christ (CRU). “I am a volunteer for and on the planning team for an annual event called Love Week. Students try to raise both awareness and financial support to help end human trafficking in various other nations.”

She’s also trying to become more involved in Habitat for Humanity, and recently participated in Relay for Life and Good Deeds Day at Mason.

Huegel is setting her sights on a business career. “I am extremely passionate about my desired career field and have full confidence that my education at Mason will allow me to succeed in whatever career I pursue. I would love to get in the field of sales and advertising working to do corporate public relations and my ultimate career goal is to be a marketing director at a major business in the D.C. area,” she explains.

And she may make it a permanent home. “I love the Fairfax/D.C. area and can definitely picture myself here for a very long time,” she says. ”There are so many opportunities here as well, so it is the perfect location for me to be.”
