Break Out the Sunscreen, New Port Richey

Sunshine is in the forecast for most of the week ahead.

After weeks of on-again, off-again heavy storms, New Port Richey residents should finally get a chance to dry out a bit.

Forecasters at the National Weather Service are calling for a week of relatively low rain chances and high temperatures in the 90s for most of the Tampa Bay area.

“The good news is even though we still have a chance (of rain), hopefully we’re getting into a slightly drier pattern,” said meteorologist Robert Garcia. “The closer you are to the Bay or Gulf, the lower your rain chances.”

Those rain chances are set at roughly 20 percent for Monday through Wednesday, July 22-24. They start to climb into the 30-percent-range overnight Wednesday and hover around 40 percent on Thursday.

Even so, Garcia said “people will have to worry more and more about sunscreen” and less about grabbing umbrellas as they head out the door.

With a heat index nearing 100 in some inland areas, it could get a little muggy out there, but Garcia said, “for the most part it should be fairly nice weather.”
