Cell Phone Store Closes at City Gateway

A local real estate agent pointed to it to emphasize the crime problem in New Port Richey.

The cell phone retail store and AT&T on U.S. 19 and Main Street in New Port Richey has gone out of service.

The store in the 14,000-square-foot building at 6318 U.S. 19, right at an entryway to the city, closed its doors recently and is now vacant. The store has been open at that location since the summer of 2011.

Chuck Grey, a commercial Realtor with offices right next door, noted to the New Port Richey City Council last week that  the store runner had recently complained about being harassed by passersby. Grey mentioned this example during a meeting where residents were expressing concern about crime in the community. Grey was one of several people worried it would impact local businesses.

What do you think would fit in the location? How can the city prevent crime from impacting business here?
