Estela's Arriving on Main Street

The business plans a tentative Dec. 1 opening.

Estela’s Mexican Restaurant is making a big move.

The restaurant is relocating from 7041 U.S. 19 to 5706 Main Street, New Port Richey, the former home of Juan’s Black Bean Café/ La Tropicana Del Sol.

The restaurant is planning to open its doors for business at the new location in the coming weeks, tentatively Dec. 1.

Estela’s is a Tampa Bay area-based franchise of Mexican restaurants. It has four other locations: two in Tampa, one in Brandon and the other in St. Petersburg.

Check back with Patch soon to meet the people who run the New Port Richey restaurant and for more information on the restaurant's opening.

Brian, there are actually quite a lot of Mexican restaurants in Florida, and a lot right here in the Tampa Bay Area. Heck, there are a lot just in West Pasco county! Estela's was open for a couple years at their location on US 19, and was just one plaza away from another Mexican restaurant called Golden Tequila. There's also Carmelita's on Old C.R. 54, El Rancho Mexican Grill further up on US 19 in Port Richey, and Gringo's Cafe on Ridge Rd. Those are just off the top of my head, but there are probably more. My favorite Mexican restaurant is actually in Dunedin, though. Casa Tina's on Main Street.

Will they be serving authentic Mexican cuisine or just more of "upscale Taco Bell"? I look forward to checking them out. As a side note, what happened with Juan's? -- I love Cuban foods. I don't dine out often, but did enjoy a few meals there.

You can find a menu of what's typically served at Estela's at http://www.estelas.com. We have not been able to touch base with Juan's to know whether they've closed PERIOD or are just relocating, but we plan to talk the Estela's managers next week and also contact Juan's next week.

I love Estela's - their food is pretty tasty and went to their old location with friends often. Juan's had a food booth at sims park last event and I asked them where they were. Juan himself retired and they closed the restaurant and the kids took over. They said they were focusing on catering and tent shows instead of a restaurant now. Though I think there's a Juan's black bean cafe in palm harbor.

The way it's going around here, we'll be known for our gourmet fine dining which will consist of chinese buffets and mexican restaurants!

Juan shows up from time to time at Mezzalunas. I love his Cubans with a side of black beans and rice.
