5 Things You Should Know Today, April 13

'Tis a day to seek some shelter from the sun and absorb some culture around town.

You’ve had a long week, with the city elections and all, so maybe this is a day to soak up some culture.

1.  What could be more highly cultured than visiting an art exhibit? And there’s one starting at noon at the Progress Energy Art Gallery, 6231 Grand Blvd. You’ll find Surrealism and Expressionism. The free exhibit featuring artist jacabo runs through April 28.

2.  And what’s one of the most cultured sounding languages? How about conversational French?  Well, the New Port Richey Public Library, 5939 Main St., can provide that starting at 2 p.m. when you can practice conversing in French amid a small, friendly group.

3.  Maybe poetry could be more cultured than both and the Progress Energy Art Gallery, 6231 Grand Blvd. has that, too, starting at 6:30 p.m. and it’s free. Observing National Poetry Month, Amarilys Gacio Rassler, who will read from her latest chapbook. An open mic follows.

4.  Well, maybe it’s not bursting with culture according to some, but there’s Trio’s Team Trivia Mania starting at 7 p.m. at Trio’s Lounge in the Quality Inn & Suites Conference Center, 5316 US 19 in New Port Richey. You can ace everyone on questions about art, poetry and French.

5.  For a different take on culture, you can go to Crazy Eddie's Benchwarmers at 6431 US 19 in New Port Richey and watch some hockey. The New York Rangers and the Ottawa Senators game will be streamed live through Online TV PC. It starts at 7 p.m.
