5 Things You Should Know Today, April 14

Summer's looming a calendar page away so take advantage of the weather now.

It’s the weekend, so are you really going to stay home?

1.  You’ll have great weather the next two days with forecasts from the National Weather Service calling for afternoons in the low 80s and cool nights dipping into the 60s. Rain looks to be a long shot with maybe a 20 percent chance this afternoon. The soggy, summer humidity is still weeks away.

2.  And you can start with the most important meal of the day, though some may view whatever the next meal may be as most important. Try a breakfast of pannakakku and pulla served by the Finnish American Club in New Port Richey at 6016 Delaware Ave. They begin serving up the eggy Finnish oven pancakes and sweet cardamom bread at 8 a.m. for $5.

3.  You can find some bargains and help Countless Cats Rescue, a non-profit trap, neuter and return organization aimed at reducing populations of cats born on the streets. The 3rd Annual Tag Sale starts at 8 a.m. at Seven Springs Self Storage, 2852 Seven Springs Blvd. in New Port Richey. The event will continue Sunday.

4.  The fine weather is perfect for hoppin’ on the hog and motoring to Boondock's Bike Fest 2012 Benefit starting at 1 p.m. You can show off your ride or admire others until 3 p.m. at Boondocks Bar, Grill & Pizzeria, 8530 Moon Lake Road, New Port Richey. There will be live music until 10 p.m. Proceeds benefit Volunteer Way of Pasco that provides food to families in need.

5.  You can also head outdoors to the James E. Grey Preserve, 6938 Plathe Road, New Port Richey, where there will be nature crafts, snacks, a release of lady bugs and other activities, including a 5K run that starts at 7:30 a.m. Things continue at 9 a.m. when the New Port Richey Parks and Recreation Department marks the fifth year since the preserve opened.
