Low-Pressure Zone Tracking Toward Florida

The low-pressure system may hit the Sunshine State mid-week. Meanwhile, afternoon thunderstorms are in the forecast Monday-Friday.

Folks in New Port Richey and across the Tampa Bay region are in for a stormy week.

The National Weather Service is monitoring a low-pressure zone near the Yucatan Peninsula that may reach Florida mid-week, bringing heavy rain, flooding, gusty winds and tornadoes.

According to the National Weather Service, "this system has the potential to bring multiple hazards to the region this week."

The National Weather Service also issued a hazardous weather outlook for Monday in the Tampa Bay region, including Manatee and Sarasota counties. Thunderstorms are in the forecast for Monday and Monday night, with the chance of cloud-to-ground lightning and some minor flooding. Afternoon thunderstorms are expected to continue throughout the week.
