Enrollment is starting soon for many summer camps. Here's a selection of summer camps in Pasco County.

Summer is on the horizon and with it comes a variety of camp options for the young people in your family. From sports focused programs to ones with an emphasis on performing arts, youth will have ample opportunities for enrichment even when the last school bell rings.

New Port Richey Area Camps:

Name: City of New Port Richey Summer Camp 

Location: New Port Richey Recreation and Aquatics Center, 6630 Van Buren St, New Port Richey, Fla.

Type of camp: Recreation/Swimming/Games/Arts and Crafts

Cost: $400/8 weeks; Non-residents: $480/8 weeks

When: June 18-Aug.10 from 7:30a.m.-5:30p.m.

Details: Campers ages 6-13 will participate in indoor and outdoor activities, arts and crafts, games, field trips, special events, guest speakers, swimming and more.

Name: Horse Camp at Angels Meadows

Location: Angels Meadows, 28432 Saint Joe Road, Dade City, Fla.

Type of camp: Horse Back Riding/Recreation/Arts and Crafts

Cost: $175 per week

When: June 4-Aug.9 from 8:30a.m.-4:00p.m.

Details: Campers aged 6 and up take part in daily horse feedings, grooming, riding and instruction. Arts and crafts and horse shows round out the summer camp experience.

Cost: $150 first week/$100 each additional week

Name: Pasco County Parks and Recreation Summer Camp

Location: Various schools and recreation centers in Pasco County.

Type of camp: Sports/Recreation/Games

Cost: Prices range per location generally $15-$60 per week.

When: June 24-August 9 from 7:30a.m.-6:00p.m.

Details: Campers 5-13 can chose from 10 programs at a variety of locations across Pasco County.

Name: YMCA of the Suncoast Summer Camp

Location: James P. Gills Family Branch YMCA, 8411 Photonics Drive, New Port Richey, Fla.

Type of camp: Sports/Arts/Life Skills

Cost: $85-$115 per week depending on camp.

When: Dates vary but generally June 10-Aug. 16 from 7:00a.m.-6:30p.m.

Details: Youth and teens experience indoor and outdoor activities to motivate, stimulate and recreate them during the summer. Parents and campers can select from a wide variety of camp programs from sports camp to art camp.

Type of camp: Art

Cost: Weekly rates range from $60-$80 for non-members, $40-$70 for member

While it isn't a camp, it's always worth it to check out your local library's Summer Reading Programs and other events, most of which are generally free.
