Tax Collector Mike Fasano Announces Partnership with Pack-a-Sack 4 Kids

During the month of July, in preparation for the start of the school year, Pasco County Tax Collector Mike Fasano and his staff will be partnering with One Community Now’s Pack-a-Sack 4 Kids program.  This community service provides food during the school year for children whose main meals are those they eat in school.  It is estimated that over 7000 children in Pasco County lack adequate food during weekends and school holidays.  The Pack-a-Sack 4 Kids program provides a backpack full of food that each participating child can bring home on Friday afternoons packed with enough food to last throughout the weekend.

Starting on July 1 each tax collector’s office in Pasco County will be a collection site for non-perishable food items such as single-serve cereal boxes, bowls, oatmeal packets, canned pasta, juice boxes, canned meats, crackers, pudding and applesauce cups and tuna or chicken packets to name a few.  Food will be picked up weekly so fresh fruits and vegetables can be donated but no items that require refrigeration, please.

“There should not be a single child who goes to bed hungry each night,” states Tax Collector Mike Fasano.  “Every item of food that is collected will go into the hands of young people throughout Pasco County to ensure that they have a full stomach during weekend and school holiday periods.  I encourage anyone who visits one of our offices to bring in an item or two that a child would enjoy eating.”
