The Secret to Holiday Magic

The other day I went to Home Depot and they already have their Christmas decorations out.   It’s not even Halloween yet – are you kidding me!  Yet in the same breath that childhood excitement secretly escaped.  It’s getting closer. 

Most people love the Holiday season, and I am no exception.  We all have different reasons: family from out of town, cookies with kisses, festive decorations, or presents tied with sparkling bows.   It’s that Holiday Spirit: that thing that livens your step.  The feeling of finding the perfect gift for that person you love.  The air is crisp and fresh and a magic appears.  It is the magic that I treasure most.  Where does it come from?

Well, there is no secret source for this magic.  You see, during this time we think about how fortunate we are.  How could you not with a holiday called Thanksgiving?  No matter how hard your life may seem, there is always someone else who has it worse.  And no matter how little you have, there is always something you can give.  Even if it is just a smile, you give what you can and that is what sparks the magic.  Giving.

If stores are going to start promoting the Holidays sooner, I say we do the same with the magic.  Let’s start giving!  I also happen to have the perfect opportunity to jump start that spirit.  The New Port Richey Parks and Recreation Youth Advisory Board is doing a food drive through November 15.  All of the food will be donated to a local pantry.  Items can be delivered to the Recreation and Aquatic Center located at 6630 Van Buren Street in New Port Richey.  For more information call (727) 841-4560.

I challenge all of you to pick up an extra can of veggies, jar of peanut butter, or box of macaroni and cheese when you are out shopping and donate it.  It’s just a little extra time, and a few more dollars.  But just think how amazing the world will be with a little more magic.
