Boats Burglarized at Marina

Several yachts were broken into at the MarineMax in South Pasadena Thursday.

The Pinellas County Sheriff's Office is investigating a series of break-ins at the MarineMax Yacht Service Center at 6810 Gulfport Blvd. in South Pasadena.

Deedee Moss, the Service Administrator, says five yachts were broken into on Thursday, Jan. 10. It happened between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Moss says that although nothing was stolen, the burglars ransacked the boats, pulled out drawers and caused minor damage to one boat.

"They didn't take anything, it's really weird," Moss said.

Moss says three fishing poles were taken from one yacht but were left on the dock.

"They may have gotten spooked," she said of the suspect or suspects.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office at (727) 582-6200.

Hello everyone, I've just heard from a reader that someone was arrested yesterday at the marina for the beak in's. I'll get more information on Monday and update everyone. - Thanks, Cherlene

Thank you. It would be interesting to hear who it was. Seems odd to hope it was a non-homeless person, but instead one of the fellow marina customers or someone from a nearby home, etc. it is just as odd to try and distinguish the difference between a person saying insulting comments about our police force who put their lives in danger for us, compared to someone who is speaking less than completely kind about the homeless. I guess the message here is that a thief is a thief, and many homeless people are just as honorable as your own neighbor? I don't exactly agree with that. I actually strongly disagree with it. I think there is a place in the world for ''people who see things through rose colored glasses''. After all, if not for them..it would perhaps only leave all the people who are harsh. I think there is a place for both types of people, because the view from the tinted glasses is not ''real'' enough. We live in an area that is vulnerable to becoming swept up in blight to a degree it may never recover from. Sure, Gulfport is still nice, but it is somewhat of a gauntlet to leave here. It is time to look at things a little more protective and aggressively. Yes, that tarnishes our mellow life and community image here...but it is better than seeing it go away for good. Even hippies need some brute like actions by ''somebody'', to keep the peace they so much live for. The fight to keep Gulfport nice lies in the S. St Petersburg area that surrounds it, or it will consume us.

hmmm....kind of a funny comment from someone who is often among the first to say something outlandish. Do you even know what a blog is for? It's not a sewing circle. A ''Patch'' blog is a way for the people of a community to voice and table thoughts. ''The Patch'' is all over America...it's part of Huffington Press...but it's much better due to our excellent local Editors. At least here you can indulge in ''some'' provocative lines of discussion and remain alive...providing you don't push the all fearful ''terms of service'' rules too far. Believe me, both of us would have been censored long ago by HP ''moderator's'', but i doubt you even know what I am referring to. Here in the Gulfport patch, you'd sometimes swear it is the private blog of the city officials. It's not. One thing is for sure, without you around saying things like you did, I'd have far less to reply back about. Are you just here to have people agree with you? Good luck on that...lol. Just what ''are'' you even here for, ''patriot''. What...nothing negative to say about our police any more? Stand your ground. Somehow I picture your face the same as the ''Anonymous'' anarchists group. As a person who learned about being a patriot long before and during my times in the military, I define that word far different that you seem to. I will refrain from using the ''lame'' (just pretend it's not there) word again and only think it this time. At least one of us has to try and obey the terms of service.
