A New Port Richey man faces misdemeanor theft charges after police say he entered a Tarpon Springs store, took a variety of items, including body spray and sunglasses, and left without paying for them.
The man then made an attempt to elude Tarpon Springs police by fleeing on foot.
In the end, officers arresed Christopher Kaywood, 40, in relation to the 9 a.m. April 13 Dollar General theft. He is accused of taking $35.75 worth of items from the 1947 S. Pinellas Ave. store.
According to Tarpon police, the items taken included a Turtle Wax headlight kit, three pairs of sunglasses, Axe body spray and polypropylene rope.
After fleeing the scene, Kaywood was spotted in the Tarpon Springs Walmart parking lot where deputies chased him down on foot.
Police officers say during the incident they discovered a warrant for Kaywood's arrest in Pasco County, where he was wanted for violating his probation on charges of possession of a controlled substance.
Kaywood is currently awaiting trial at the Pinellas County Jail on felony charges of possession of alprazolam and two counts of violation of probation along with misdemeanor charges of petit theft and resisting an officer without violence.
