Man Arrested After Commenting on His Own Wanted Post

When Pasco County Sheriff’s deputies posted Matt Oliver’s picture on their Facebook page naming him “Fugitive of the Day” chances are they didn’t expect Oliver to respond.

But, respond he did.

In fact, the 23-year-old New Port Richey man’s comments sparked a lengthy conversation between him and fans of the sheriff’s office’s page. It also led to his arrest on an outstanding warrant for robbery.

In his first comment on the page, Oliver proclaimed his innocence and threatened the sheriff’s office for making its post in the first place.

“You guys are going to pay for A. Believing a crack head. and B. Slandering my name,” Oliver wrote. “… all I have to do is accuse someone and they get in trouble, Pasco County has nothing but fools investigating crimes for them that's why these mix up happen.”

Oliver went on to argue with followers of the page and also said he was in the hospital at the time the crime he stands accused of was committed.

The sheriff’s office, however, says otherwise. They arrested him Friday, July 12, on that outstanding warrant.

“Matt Oliver has been apprehended,” read the updated Facebook post.

Fugitive of the Day is a regular feature on the sheriff’s office Facebook page. It’s designed to help law enforcement connect with the community while it’s on the hunt for those wanted on a host of charges in the county.

“Our FOTD program has been very successful in helping us make arrests but this is the first time the fugitive has actively engaged us through our page publicly,” wrote sheriff’s office spokeswoman Melanie Snow in an email to media.

Booking information for Oliver was not yet available, according to jail records.
