Man Crashes into Mobile Home While Fleeing Police

Arrested was Felipe Castillo-Oyola, 27, of 6440 Main St # 11 on multiple charges.

A New Port Richey man fleeing police Friday morning was arrested after he crashed his car into a mobile home, according to the New Port Richey Police department.

Shortly before 4 a.m., a police officer attempted to pull over a gold Nissan Maxima that ran a stop sign at Belleview Dr. & U.S. 19, according to a media release.  The officer activated his lights, but the car failed to stop, according to the release, and also ignored the siren.

The Maxima continued east on Siesta Drive and then south on Leo Kidd Drive, speeding at about 70 m.p.h. Then it went east on Pinehill Road and turned south onto Congress Street. It turned east onto Accent Drive, at high speed, and the driver lost control. The Nissan crashed into the Florida room on the west side of the mobile home at 6508 Accent Lane, New Port Richey.

People were in the mobile home at the time of the crash, but not in the room the car collided with, said Acting Police Chief Lt. James Steffens. At least one was a resident, Steffens said.

No one in the home was injured, according to the release. Neither was the driver of the Nissan.

The driver fled on foot and was arrested by the officer 20 yards away.

After the Nissan was impounded, authorities found a loaded .45 Sig Sauer on the floor of the driver’s side, and it was loaded, Steffens said. The driver also had a sock of .45 calibre ammo in his pocket. The police are still investigating, he said.

Arrested was Felipe Castillo-Oyola, 27, of 6440 Main St #11. He was charged by the police department with fleeing to elude and carrying a concealed firearm. He was also charged by the Florida Highway Patrol with reckless driving and leaving the scene of a crash with property damage.

He told the police because he possessed the loaded gun, according to the release.
