Deputies were called to 9518 Farley Ave. after learning a man at that address had threatened to kill his wife, said sheriff’s office spokesman Kevin Doll in an email to media.

“The wife left the home, and when a responding deputy arrived, the man pointed a weapon at the deputy,” he wrote. “SWAT unit deputies responded and the crisis management negotiators began a dialogue with the suspect who had retreated into the home.”

Those negotiations, however, didn’t seem to work. Just before midnight, the man came out of the home and fired on deputies with an AK-47. Deputies returned fire, Doll said.

Two deputies received minor injuries, possibly from shrapnel wounds, Doll said. The man died from his injuries.

Doll said the man’s name is not being released at this time.
