Police say a New Port Richey man smacked his date in the face before being arrested at a bar on the Tarpon Springs sponge docks.

According to an arrest affidavit, Constantin Pandroulas, 62, was on a date with an unidentified female at Sawgrass Tiki Bar, at 610 Athens Street, when the two got into a verbal argument at about 12:45 p.m.

Police say Pandroulas then smacked the woman before he "pushed the victim up against a wall and began yelling in her face."

After Pandroulas struck the woman during the August 4 incident, redness and swelling were visible, according to the affidavit.

Bar staff notified Tarpon Springs PD, who were on scene in a matter of moments. Officers who arrived on scene say they witnessed Pandroulas holding the victim against the wall and screaming at her.

Pandroulas denied hitting the woman, but told police he did, in fact, push her against the wall "because it was okay."

The affidavit indicated that Pandroulas was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the arrest.

He was arrested on a misdemeanor charge of battery and was later released on his own recognizance.
