The Pasco County Sheriff's Office has released an audio recording that was made in the moments following the fatal Aug. 9 shooting of Robert William Kaminski, 62.

“Shots fired. Shots fired.”

“Suspect down. Suspect down.”

Deputies had been called out to Kaminski’s 9518 Marley Ave. home around 9 p.m. after they say he threatened to kill his wife. While she was able to leave the home, Kaminski greeted a responding deputy with a weapon.

“SWAT unit deputies responded and the crisis management negotiators began a dialogue with the suspect who had retreated into the home,” wrote sheriff’s office spokesman Kevin Doll in an email to media over the weekend.

Those negotiations, however, didn’t seem to work. Just before midnight, the man came out of the home and fired on deputies with an AK-47. Deputies returned fire, Doll said.

Two deputies received minor injuries, possibly from shrapnel wounds, Doll said. The man died from his injuries.

More details about the shooting are starting to emerge. Sheriff Chris Nocco held a press conference on the SWAT callout and shooting on Monday, Aug. 12.
