Layoffs Appear Likely for City

New Port Richey's bad budget situation keeps getting more serious.

City layoffs appear to be looming, New Port Richey city leaders were told Tuesday night.

City Manager John Schneiger said the bad news about the city’s already scary-looking financial situation  keeps coming. City department heads had already been asked in April to cut department costs by 10 percent to slim spending in next year’s budget. Now it appears the city will have to discuss losing employees.

"One of the things we're going to be talking about unfortunately is going to be the continued layoff of city employees," Schneiger told the city council.
