GEEKNOTE: New Year Plans

GEEKNOTE:   Perhaps it comes from growing up hearing JFK tell us to "Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country."  Perhaps it was the influence of my folks, various teachers, and my scoutmasters, but I've always had a belief that each one of us has a responsibility and an obligation to do our part to make our communities and our country better.

My dad did his part by serving in the Navy, volunteering in more ways that you can count, but his passion was education.  He thought that the kids of Pasco County deserved the best we could provide them and he backed that up by running for and serving on the school board for a number of years.

My passion has been to do what I could to make my hometown, New Port Richey, a better place to live and work in.  I'm proud of the six years I spent on the city council.  My colleagues and I made some tough decisions and spent far more time on city business than most folks could imagine.  We didn't get everything right, but we made the best decisions that we could with the information available at the time.  I can't say enough good things about the others who served with me on city council.  Each and every one of them genuinely care about our city.

I've enjoyed my year off from city responsibilities.   Spoiling my grandchildren and growing my business have been at the top of my priority list.  I've even managed to get some bike rides in.  Still, I've kept up on various issues coming before the city council.   With the new year, it is time for me to step up to the plate and make the run for mayor that so many people have encouraged me to consider.

I've filed the initial paperwork with the city clerk and I've created a campaign website:

Next week, I'll either revisit "To Big To Have A Clue" or explore the privacy we give up with our mobile apps.  Both of these topics are fluid, to say the least.
