PTA President Released From Jail
Seven Springs Elementary PTA president Mara Leah Slone was released on $5,000 bond after deputies say she embezzled nearly $3,000.
Seven Springs Elementary School’s PTA president is in hot water after Pasco County deputies say the New Port Richey woman took $2,825 that didn’t belong to her.
Mara Leah Slone, 33, was booked into the Land O’ Lakes Jail May 16 on scheme to defraud charges. She was later released after posting bond, jail records indicate.
According to the Tampa Bay Times, Slone, the sole signer on the Seven Springs PTA account, took money from the PTA account between Dec. 14, 2011, and Jan. 15, 2013. A bookkeeper for the county’s PTA council gets the credit for catching the expenditures receipts had not been produced for.

Slone told deputies she took the money for personal use due to “financial hardships,” the Times reported. She handed over $2,000 to a deputy she said came from returning items that were unused.
Slone has no prior criminal record in Pasco County, according to jail records.
