Rotaries Help Teachers Move to New Richey Elementary

Volunteers aided teachers in preparing for the new school year.

A legion of volunteers helped teachers and staff move into the new Richey Elementary campus Monday.

Classes will be held in the two, two-story buildings when the new school year starts this month.

So, members of several West Pasco Rotaries donated their time and effort to help get ready for the first bell on Aug. 20.

Cynthia Armstrong, a Trinity resident and vice chairwoman of the Pasco County School Board, reached out to the rotaries for their help. She and her husband Greg Armstrong, an active organizer of the Holiday street parade in New Port Richey, are both Rotary members.

Kim Bogart, who is running for Pasco sheriff, and Karen King, who is running for Pasco County Commission, were among the folks helping out.

Principal Ken Miesner said about 90 people pitched in to help Richey Elementary prepare for the new year.

Cynthia Armstrong said teachers and staff have been working on their own time to move into the new campus. She said the volunteer effort, which included folks who weren’t Rotary members, was a “wonderful outpouring” of support from the community.

“Teachers were thrilled to have the support,” Armstrong said.
