Kids and parents are going to have a new place to get snacks and drinks during soccer games at W.H. Jack Mitchell, Jr., Park next year.
The Pasco County Parks and Recreation Department is overseeing construction of a new concession stand at Mitchell Park, which sits along Little Road in the unincorportated New Port Richey area. The stand replaces an old one.
“The old concession stand was built in the mid-80s and needed a lot of repair,” said Mike Smith, who heads up construction projects for the parks and recreation department. "It also did not meet the new (Americans With Disabilities Act) requirements and there were not enough restroom facilities to handle the number of people that use the facility regularly. The new concession stand has more restroom facilities and meets all ADA requirements.”
Mitchell Park, located at 4025 Little Rd, is 52 acres and contains a playground and fields for soccer and baseball. The West Pasco Youth Soccer Association is the major user of the concession stand, but many other groups use the bathrooms, Smith said.
Construction of the new concession stand started Sept. 1 and is expected to conclude on Jan. 19. The county is paying for the construction using impact fees.
The design cost was $59,150. The construction cost is $393,400.
The contractor doing the project is TPD Construction of St. Petersburg.
