I'm eating pizza for the Indians and drinking beer for the Rays...I lived in OH for 41 years and nowRead More FL for 41 years. With me it's a win-win situation. Pretty good odds, right?

.......Whether it be any of the other city council members, Mayor Bob Consalvo who wants to beRead More elected again in April 2014, or the Recreation director of New Port Richey Parks, Elaine Smith -– if you do what you've always done, you'll get what you've always got. ................................................................................................. ....All I know is, in many smaller communities across America where city pools are fully occupied and the bills are paid, quite often it's because that inner circle running the show has strong feelings about what they do. ................................................................................................. ....Any City Council member or recreation director in New Port Richey that's passionate about planting seeds and building the future of this community, will invariably start with the kids and show them, not tell them, where there's a will there's a way. ................................................................................................. ....Unfocused community managers will often collaborate for comfort and find excuses together, declaring that resources, such as skills, staff, time, and money are limited. ................................................................................................. ....Winners believe in better and know perfectly well resources are never the defining factors for a successful city. ................................................................................................. ....When people are in love, angry, or quite simply, they desperately need to bring more money to the table, then they often make unusual decisions because those emotional feelings and that reasoning suddenly changes the way they look at getting things done. ................................................................................................ ....Money or other resources are not the defining factor then for keeping this pool open and occupied, human emotion is, because in the moment of decision, your emotional resourcefulness is the defining factor for your flow of ideas, decisions, and resolve. ................................................................................................. ....When somebody tells you they don't have the resources, they don't feel like doing something, or taking any steps, it's usually just because doing so simply doesn't mean that much to them. ................................................................................................. ....Think about it for a minute. You just can't do the thing, because these young winners in our city celebrating something significant in their lives, just doesn't mean that much to you. ................................................................................................. ....Oh sure, it means something to you, but it just doesn't mean that much. ................................................................................................ ....What my teacher taught me: The 3R's of leadership are Respect, Responsibility, and Resourcefulness.

From my limited observations I can tell you this: This city just likes to kick the can down the roadRead More and never commit. Just a though, I joined the city rec. center years ago. Paid my family membership to support it. I do not have children and rarely used the facilities but I do like having a high quality facility in my city. Did the staff at the Rec. center do anything to keep my support when the membership expired? Isn't an existing member the least costly to retain? A simple letter? Phone Call? Email? Sign here? Press hard? Nope, nothing? The Rec. center just allows the existing members drop off with no effort to retain? So we hire more people at the top and assign them the duty and a budget to recruit new members? Should I turn on the lights, turn off the TV, and make a trip to the Rec. center to give them $300 when they obviously don't appreciate or value my membership? Just a thought. Seems like basic stuff to me.

Some simple fixes to the Rec. Center problems: Assign someone to keep in contact with members andRead More promote renewals. The center should be graded on its member retention. This does not have to be a marking genius, but can be handled by existing counter staff. Revamp the existing city limit membership rates. I know several people that live less than a mile from the center but live one street out of NPR city limit so they fall into Port Richey. Should they really pay double? I know they did not contribute tax dollars to the facility, but they are close and are mostly likely to join. Maybe revamp the fee structure and charge people living within say 5 miles to pay $100 surcharge over the resident rate? The center is missing low hanging fruit. Paying double when they live within walking distance just does not sit well with these people. The Center already allows Port Richey and Pasco County staff to pay the NPR residential rate for Rec. Center membership. So extending an offer to the folks that reside close and are most likely to use and support the Center seems like smart business.

That's the most asinine comment I've ever read. You are obviously clueless with regards to MMARead More fighting if you are comparing it to cockfighting.

Having a child that went to Gulf High with Ladarious, I have watched and read his story from theRead More beginning. Every time I see him taking another step towards becoming all he dreams of, it brings tears of happiness to my eyes. He is an inspiration to show that you can come from such a horrible beginning to not only graduate but earn a scholarship to college. It unfortunately was not for him and this is what he has chosen that makes him happy. God bless you Ladarious!! I know this fight will be a win for you and a step towards being all that you dream of!! As for the negative moronic comment above.... well, God bless you too because it is apparent you need it.

With every article i have read it is a dangerous sport! I refuse to let my grandson play. The risksRead More are too great. Even the nfl players are at risk. They said the brain gets too shaken up.People need to wake up and see the light for these boys that have lost their lives because of this sport.parents are to set the example for their kids and say no!

Your child can start playing tackle football at age 5, but most play flag first. When these veryRead More young kids run into each other, it's not much of an impact to be honest. I'm not saying they never give each other a good hit because it happens occasionally. I never thought of it as dangerous, though. One important note; if the helmet is making the hit, the kid is doing it wrong, and the coach will say so. A high impact helmet to helmet hit is dangerous. I watched my oldest nephew play football from age 7 into high school. He had a concussion which resulted from an under inflated helmet used during a hard hit in practice. He also had a huge helmet-to-helmet hit during a game. The risk is real, but the benefits are many; confidence, competition, brotherhood, team play, and physical fitness, to name a few.

Being in automobile accidents causes more deaths, so do motor-scooters/motor-cycles, skateboards,Read More etc....all kill more kids than football.....! Kids cannot be wrapped & stored away to keep them safe. They must learn to cope with and to withstand adversity.

Heck NO..... It would only cost the Federal and Local Govt more money to pay its employees, which inRead More turn means the Taxpayers will foot the bill... Ex: school closings=daycare, USPS=stamp hike, etc... Sounds like a good ideal, but really not a smart economic one... As a Federal employee, I dread the holidays...
