The young members of MBL Trio, 2012's Rockus Maximus winners, check in with Patch.
They’re young, “refreshing,” and, though separated by more than a thousand miles, still rockin’. The teens who make up MBL Trio, last year’s Rockus Maximus winners, are still at it, despite Michael Lindo’s move to Boston, where he now attends Berklee College of Music. “The band and I continue to perform together when I come down for breaks or if we have a really important gig,” Lindo wrote in an email. “We just finished playing a few shows one at the Market on 7th in Ybor, The State Theatre in St. Petersburg and we played the First Night in St. Pete New Years event.” The band, which includes Michael’s brother, Lorenzo Lindo, and Ben Kennett, both Steinbrenner High seniors, is also finishing up its new E.P. The annual competition pulls in bands from all over the Tampa Bay area.
Pasco County is looking for a few goods bands that want to lay it all on the line for a chance to win cold, hard cash and professional recording time. The county’s library system plays host to the annual battle that pits bands from all over the Tampa Bay area in a competition to win $1,000 in cash and $1,200 worth of professional recording studio time. The field is open to bands from anywhere in the state of Florida with a few caveats: each band must have at least three members, the majority of members must be 21 or under and all bands must have at least two original songs . Rockus Maximus preview gives sample of good jives .
If you went to juvenile section the South Holiday Library Saturday, you would have been audience to live performances of rock, metal and hip-hop. Four bands and one solo act were rocking at a preview performance for Rockus Maximus XV, the Pasco County Library System's Battle of the Bands. In addition, band members competed at the preview in a game of "Library Warrior," in which they were challenged to speed paint while dancing, drink coffee that they were told was brewed from meal worms (although it wasn't really) and other physical and mental challenges. A promotional concert takes place at the South Holiday Library from 6 to 10 p.m.
Want to hear some of the bands in Rockus Maximus XV before the big concert in March? You’ll get your chance this Saturday when four of the eight acts take to the stage at the South Holiday Library, 4649 Mile Stretch Drive, from 6 to 10 p.m. The preview concert is free and geared toward teens in grades six and up. The first 50 teens in the door will get free glow sticks. Rockus Maximus is the Pasco County Library System’s annual battle of the bands. The event pits eight local bands against each other in a competition to win 10 hours of recording time and other prizes.
